Re: CASA 20 years

As I've said elsewhere already, many congratulations Jacob... running a site for 20 years is no mean feat. It's been invaluable for me since I discovered it a few years ago.

I was interviewed and video taped by two professors from the Universities of Adelaide and Wellington, who were doing ...

Re: The Bianco Mansion

I've joined up. Lots of interesting stuff and CASA does get mentioned quite often. I'll probably lurk for a while until I have a chance to read the backlog and get a feel for the general vibe. I recognise a lot of familiar names on there, including Jacob and other CASA regulars.

It's generally ...

Anyway, I will post tomorrow as it's a special date :)
CASA gets a lot of mentions on the FB group... I probably link to it at least three times every day. :)

Re: The Bianco Mansion

I've avoided Facebook for years. You've just given me a reason to reconsider. I had no idea there was an 8-bit text adventures group on there.

It's really the only reason I'm on there myself. Almost 1,400 members in the 8-Bit Text Adventures group (which is really a "Classic Adventures" group ...

Re: The Bianco Mansion

As mentioned on the 8-bit text adventures Facebook group, it's pretty similar to Clive's 'The Nielson Papers' game http://solutionarchive.com/game/id%2C5273/Nielson+Papers%2C+The.html

I guess it made a lot of sense to tweak and reuse ideas for all the books he wrote for different computers.

He's ...

Re: hi all

Well I decided yesterday to switch from quest to inform for the game. There seems to be more games written with it so it should be accessible to more people. Bit of a nightmare moving the code today but think I've got the hang of it now.

Inform is more portable... depending on the version you've ...

Re: hi all

Well, technically Jhothamia 6 is not a Tony Collins game... as far as I'm aware he was only responsible for the C64 port. The game was actually by David Edgar... the CASA entry should probably have Tony's involvement mentioned in the notes section rather than as an author.

But, yes, Tony did do ...

Re: hi all

Nice to have a post in here that's not from a spammer. :) Welcome to the site.

My personal interest lies in homegrown 8-bit text adventures from the late 80s and early 90s from mail order companies such as Zenobi, The Guild, The Adventure Workshop, Compass, River and Tartan.

Always nice to hear ...

Re: 8bitAG.com/info

I've uploaded a revised version 1.3 up to http://8bitag.com/games/trolleymania.html of the Spectrum version. I'm just building a new Amstrad version now.

The "play online" version won't be updated until/unless Spectrum Computing update their version of the files. I will send them the new ones ...

Oh! I've found it, I think!

I've used flag 69 is another place!

Both versions will be bugged!

Re: 8bitAG.com/info

Versions 1.2 and 1.0 don't really differ too much, version 2 just adds lever drain responses to the lever grate/cover ones...

LEVER GRATE: AT 13 ZERO 66 ABSENT 11 SYSMESS 66 DONE;
LEVER GRATE: AT 13 NOTZERO 66 SYSMESS 64 DONE;
LEVER GRATE: AT 13 ZERO 66 PRESENT 11 MESSAGE 43 SET 66 DONE;
LEVER ...

Re: 8bitAG.com/info

Hmm... I'm not sure what's happening as I can't replicate the bug...

This is me, going straight for the bar and then doing the drain stuff... works fine...

Re: 8bitAG.com/info

Actually, I'm wrong about that... looking at the code... FEEL is a synonym for SEARCH...

Hmmm...

SEARCH WATER: AT 13 NOTZERO 66 ZERO 69 MESSAGE 45 ANYKEY MESSAGE 46 ANYKEY CREATE 7 SET 69 DESC DONE;
SEARCH DRAIN: AT 13 NOTZERO 66 ZERO 69 MESSAGE 45 ANYKEY MESSAGE 46 ANYKEY CREATE 7 SET 69 DESC ...

Re: 8bitAG.com/info

The version on the site has had some additional responses coded in, to make it a little easier in that section... as that's where most people were getting stuck.

The original version, which is the one on Spectrum Computing, iirc... requires you to FEEL (IN) WATER (it probably accepts a few other ...

Re: Who or what is "GAC user"?

I mean, Spong similarly lists a load of titles under "GAC user"...

https://spong.com/company/544/mode/wares/

We know for certain who a lot of those were actually produced and sold by!
