Re: Inca - Apple II & PC
How fiendishly clever of the programmer! I had not noticed that you could actually do such a thing during the opening sequence. Thanks for pointing it out.

Re: Inca - Apple II & PC
I am trying to play this game via DOSBOX, but am having trouble getting started.
Can you walk me through this?
I think I managed to change the Z prompt to a C prompt, but C did not show up on the screen. The image is a bootable floppy so there is no need to mount anything, instead type ...

Re: Opera House and QA for the Atari 400/800
OK, I finally figured out what the problem was. All you have to do after that sequence is just carry the crossbow with you when you go back to his lair. If you don't, the phantom being knocked out by the chloroform does not happen, it looks as if you had done nothing at all. It's really a dumb ...

Re: Opera House and QA for the Atari 400/800
A solution will be up shortly (once I have worked out who to credit), in the meantime the order for knocking out the phantom is:
1. Handcuff the rings.
2. Drop the chloroform soaked cotton wool down the ventilation shaft.
3. Close the valve.
4. Go to the lair via the trapdoor.

Re: Opera House and QA for the Atari 400/800
I thought I had tried closing the valve, but if I had I obviously must have failed to do something else. Anyway I have now completed this game so thanks Dave.
Juan, you need to handcuff the rings when the organ is down.

We've finally finished.
Samwise,
regarding part 2 of LotR, I actually worked out how to deal with the Gimli and the Elf problem without the need to send Gimli away. So if you need help when you reach that part just post a request. Now all I need to do is find my notes or try and remember...

Re: Synopsis - what to aim for?
I know my synopses vary wildly from the very long to the very short (though I do plan to expand some of the short ones after I have reacquainted myself with those games), but the synopses I am most happy with are the ones where I give the story behind the game then give some extra information about ...

The Mystery of the Java Star
Should "The Mystery of the Java Star" (http://solutionarchive.com/game/id,2112/) be included on this site? It may have puzzles but it is not a text adventure nor is it an RPG with some text adventure elements.

Re: Get Lamp
I know Infocom coined the term "interactive fiction" but I have always preferred the term "text adventure" (or "text adventure with graphics") since I regard them as puzzle games. To me interactive fiction is something like Portal (the program from 1986 not the more recent game with the same title ...

That is just plain cruel, they let you struggle over the pass only to return you to the beginning so they can force you through Moria. They could have let you move a couple of locations along the pass, then have a location that states that further progress is impossible and you must turn back. Not ...

Re: Deliverer 1
Point well taken. I did miss the HE and should have known better.
I may be getting too old for this, missing all these cues.
OK - since you did not respond to my "suggestion" about writing it up, I will redo it. Then I'll have all these AHA experiences. In writing up the walkthrough I've reached ...

Re: Deliverer 1
Well, it's only written in pencil as of now, and not in the world's most logical order. I can and will have to rearrange the order of things to include the balloon, but I don't mind.
While, in a way, I agree that the balloon should be needed - missed that part of the message, when you go to the ...

Re: Deliverer 1
I got the scissors by inflating the cylinder, no balloon needed. That's obviously a bug, even when you don't have the balloon it still tells you that the balloon inflates and deflates. Thankfully this bug does not stop you completing the game, unlike in the sequel.
