Re: Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

You lead me to see your point quite cleverly - making me believe I came up with the analogy myself :D
haha. Am I a genius or simpleton? You decide! :)

I have written two games in Inform 7 so far and it's really much more 'traditional' than the marketing department would want you to believe once ...

Re: Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

An interesting thought: If a parser were a false promise to the player, wouldn't a 'natural language' system like Inform 7 be one, too?
That's what I've been trying to say! Albeit perhaps, badly. :) That was my point - it's really two sides of the same coin and I think we're agreed that it should ...

Re: Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

Exactly. While I admire Parchment from a technical point of view, I doubt it will be the silver bullet making people play text adventures, though. It's yet another hype.
That's a bit harsh - and implies there's nothing of substance to Parchment. I think we agree that Parchment is an achievement ...

Re: Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

I didn't get the sense that they were bad-mouthing interpreters so much as trying to encourage newbies to use Parchment - which I feel is often cited these days as being the miracle pill which will enable IF to gain massive adoption. Personally, I don't think it has anything to do with ease of use ...

Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

Anyone seen this?

Quite interesting, including some brief interviews with Andrew Plotkin and Nick Montfort:

Re: Get Lamp

I think what I like most about it, is the magical ding sound it makes when you flip it ...

Makes me wish I could find a Zorkmid to go with it now. *sigh*

Re: Get Lamp

Curses. Everyone seems to have got theirs apart from me! ;)

I was very excited when I received a DVD from Jason in the middle of last week, but it turned out to be his last one that I had also ordered, BBS: The Documentary . I have been watching that over the last couple of days and it's very good ...

Re: Real-time games

That sounds like The Hobbit to me - what else is the keyword PAUSE for?

Also, The Lord of the Rings: Game One, which isn't on your list ...

Re: Get Lamp

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting reasons why not to write a review - I was more explaining why I want to have a play with it, before I commit myself to writing a lengthy diatribe.

I kinda need to have something to say - I'm not very good at writing things up if I don't have it a plan in my ...

Re: Get Lamp

I too have this on pre-order. I'm not sure until I watch it whether there's a lot I'd want to comment on, though. I suspect anyone interested in IF won't need an external review to sway them and I don't normally write stuff up for the sake of it. That said, I'll have a better idea of whether I'm ...

Working great here, including the modified links to the standard adventure view.

Thanks!

Re: BUG: Clicking on games in Your queued submissions broken

FYI,

I didn't mention it earlier, as I assumed it was part of this change but it's been a while now - the Your queued submissions page is broken for me, I just get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function nl2p() in /hsphere/local/home/gunness/solutionarchive.com/includes/pages/submissions.php on ...

Re: BUG: Clicking on games in Your queued submissions broken

OK, so as I don't have those privs, perhaps as a mere registered user it should instead be a link to the general game info page?
