Re: BBC Micro - The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings: Game One upd

This is for the C64 version so I cannot say how well it will fair on the Beeb,
Me either, as we can't load Gimli into the later parts. Still worth knowing if we get a fix down the line, thanks.

That is "problem" as in the only way to make Strider appear in part 2 is to complete part 1B (and ...

Re: Drawing maps

If you struggled with Ruby (I'm guessing on Windows as I found it far simpler to get running on Linux), one other tool you could try that hasn't been mentioned so far is Trizbort . It's a native Windows application so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting it running. The main advantage to this ...

Re: BBC Micro - The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings: Game One upd

We've finally finished.

Samwise,
regarding part 2 of LotR, I actually worked out how to deal with the Gimli and the Elf problem without the need to send Gimli away. So if you need help when you reach that part just post a request. Now all I need to do is find my notes or try and remember...
We ...

@Gunness

So ... nearly three years after you started this topic, I'm curious. What tool did you settle on? :)

Re: Get Lamp

The one other thing I forgot to add - I was disappointed there wasn't more footage on the DVD from inside Bedquilt / Colossal Cave. I guess I was hoping for a short walkthrough DVD extra with shots of some of the more famous locations from the game.

Re: Retro Gamer: The Making of…Zork and Magnetic Scrolls fea

I haven't got it in front of me, but I didn't spot anything noteworthy IIRC. It was a hint from the RG forums that prompted me to write that. Perhaps they bumped the feature to the next issue, or maybe it was cut completely. There is a feature in issue 81 on the Making of Day of the Tentacle I ...

Re: Synopsis - what to aim for?

A couple of points to add to the discussion:

You could actually include both parts - one being the original marketing blurb, the second being the modern CASA sypnosis. No need to choose between them.

As for the size of the game, I remember The Mad Hatter, the adventure columnist in The Micro ...

This is probably going to be a controversial post. It's my own gut feeling and is probably based more off my own vague impressions rather than any tangible evidence. I fully expect there are plenty of ppl who would disagree. But, as you asked me to expand ...

Re: Get Lamp

Yes, that's the one spoiler short I did watch ... :)

I thought at first he just had them make that stuff up (I haven't played a lot of the classic adventure titles) but I twigged in the end that they were all talking about different releases.

It was a bit disappointing that Willie Crowther ...

Re: Get Lamp

OK,

So I think I've finished watching both discs (apart from the spoiler shorts on the second DVD as I haven't properly played through most of those games yet). Jason's production values are very high quality - this set is even better made than The BBS Documentary from a build point of view, and ...

Re: BBC Micro - The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings: Game One upd

You won't get any argument from me. ;)

The avalanche pretty much wipes out the entire party if you make the mistake of pushing on to the end of the pass all at once, too.

There's a lot of really odd stuff in this game which just doesn't fit with Tolkien's world - those photographs in the first ...

Re: BBC Micro - The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings: Game One upd

Returning to the remastered BBC version; for the most part I've explored Part 2 Section A, in doing so I have discovered a bug. When taking the mountain pass, going east from the "slippery path among deep snow drifts" (where the avalanche occurs) should take you to the "pathway onto a grassy slope ...

The second dimension is host systems, i.e. the system the visitor is actually using for his or her daily work.
My guide had a line in reminding *nix users to compile the emulator. :)

Well, I still think there's a bit of inconsistency at play here about whether this site is supporting the emulation side or not, but you're the boss. :thumb:

The problem is trying to make a guide simple enough to not be too scary, whilst still trying to cater for all of the possible images that ...

Re: Starting guides for various platforms

Controversial, but I'm not sure writing a guide for every platform is necessarily the best way to go. You may put people off by overloading them with information.

I wonder if targetting a small number of the most popular games/platforms and covering those in a Getting Started with IF guide might be ...
