Re: Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

Parchment - which I feel is often cited these days as being the miracle pill which will enable IF to gain massive adoption.
Exactly. While I admire Parchment from a technical point of view, I doubt it will be the silver bullet making people play text adventures, though. It's yet another hype ...

Re: Gameshelf video episode #8 - Modern Interactive Fiction

Phew... some interesting stuff for newcomers, but I don't like the general tone.

"You have to download an interpreter along with the game which is a huuuuuge chore" - Nonsense, installing an interpreter is a one-time action which will then allow you to play every game (simplified, too, but you get ...

So far, I've only fiddled around with the coin... didn't unravel the magical properties it undoubtly harbours, yet.

Re: Real-time games

How do the rest of you feel about real-time games?
"Actual real-time": I hate that. I want to have enough time to read and contemplate. "Ordinary real-time": Really depends. In the mystery genre (Suspect etc.), I think it's an essential part of the whole concept and it makes things believable. If ...

Re: Real-time games

Hmm.... what you describe, I wouldn't call 'real time', but a subset of 'randomised elements'. Or maybe I'm misreading you, because there seems to be a difference between your abstract description and the list of games you've compiled. What could happen if I look away from my computer monitor in any ...

Re: Get Lamp

I suspect anyone interested in IF won't need an external review to sway them
That assumes everybody knows about the product in the first place. Personally, I assume this documentation attempts to appeal to a broader audience than the readers of rec.arts.int-fiction. Also, I see this kind of review ...

Re: Get Lamp

I some sort of 'conversation style review' (i.e. something like this or this, which is to say an 'edited chatlog') is an option, I'm in. I wouldn't like sitting down and writing an article with a beginning and an end myself, though.

Agreed. The current setup makes little sense. I'll change it.

Re: BUG: Clicking on games in Your queued submissions broken

Is it related the the type of submission? I.e. what kind of submissions are we talking about? Updates of existing games? New files? Etc.

Re: News image bug on front page

The screenshots page is the page on which all screenshots are displayed at once, obviously. However, from your analysis, it's already clear that this is a problem with session cookies. Depending on through which URL you access the site with, the cookie domain is set differently and it's not valid ...
