Re: Retro Gamer: The Making of…Zork and Magnetic Scrolls fea
Indeed. I have bought both these issues, have read the "Zork issue" (77?) and did find yet another adventure game article in it, namely about a Beatles game. The joy.

Re: Recommendations of Spectrum emulator for Ubuntu
Hey, guess what. I just managed to load a saved game from part 1 into part 2. As you said, there's a difference between loading snapshots and loading stuff "from tape". Thanks for the help and the encouragement.

Thanks for the tips and for the link to the manual. I'll try it out next time I'm playing.

Re: Recommendations of Spectrum emulator for Ubuntu
I don't think it is an emulator state I'm talking about, but actually saving inside the game then loading again. Imagine entering SAVE in the game and RESTORE again. Then imagine entering SAVE in one game, starting another game and entering RESTORE to load the saved game. Some multi-part Quilled ...

Re: Recommendations of Spectrum emulator for Ubuntu
I have nothing against Spectemu per se and I have even enjoyed a few adventure games on it; I just cannot seem to be able to play multipart games on it. Have you managed to do that? I.e. load part one and play, save a game-state, load part two and restore the game-state from part one. Robin of ...

Recommendations of Spectrum emulator for Ubuntu
I'm looking for a good Spectrum emulator to play adventure games on which runs in Ubuntu Linux. It's okay if it costs money as long as it is easy to use and everything just works. The emulator that comes with Ubuntu (xspect a.k.a. spectemu) is so-so to use as long as the game is one part only. As ...

Re: Most overutilized/underutilized themes?
Mr Creosote, I'm not sure I understand what it is you are getting at. Are you saying that the authors were lazy and made it easy for them? Or perhaps that the sparing resources of the day in the form of virtually no computer memory, forced the authors to use prototypical themes to save room on text ...

Re: Most overutilized/underutilized themes?
Another suggestion for overutilized themes: Time Travel
Games that comes to mind: Eureka, Lords of Time, TimeQuest...
(on a side note to time-travel; here's a nice six word story from Alan Moore:
"machine. Unexpectedly, I’d invented a time"

Re: Most overutilized/underutilized themes?
One theme that I felt was overutilized for a while was the memory-loss-scenario. You wake up somewhere and don't remember who you are and how you got there. Mindshadow comes to mind. Any more games in this vein? Has this topic "cooled down" lately?

Re: Most overutilized/underutilized themes?
I will play Infocom's Sherlock one day. It is an Infocom game after all. :)
I've indeed started to play Electronic Arts' first Sherlock Holmes game some time back but I've gotten into a Catch-22 situation. (After looking in a solve I found out that apparently I did something in the wrong order and ...

Re: Most overutilized/underutilized themes?
Regarding underutilized; I'd like a really good Sherlock Holmes game. Sherlock from Melbourne House was ambitious but didn't perform well on the old 8-bit machines. Not having played Sherlock from Infocom I get the impression it is a treasure hunt more than solving a (murder-)mystery.

Re: Terrormolinos (C64)
There's a walkthrough for that game in the solutions section. No need to get stuck.
Thanks for the tip. Yes, I know there is a walkthrough for the game, but I'd rather not use it because it is too easy to see solutions to other puzzles when trying to find the answer to one particular problem ...
