Ok, I hope to have a bit of time during the weekend - I'll take a closer look then. Thanks for the info!

Yes, I'm Danish and yes, she knows The Snow Queen, so it might be an option. I'll give it a go.

Oh, Giant Killer looks like an excellent suggestion - never tried it, so would make for an ideal teamwork project. Thanks!

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

Ok, so if the Yanks are out .... ;)

Might you, Sire, recommend any games that would suit my request? Beeb or otherwise?
Cordially yours,

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

If you're thinking about US vs British English, then no.
If it's a more challenging dialect, then... perhaps. What did you have in mind?

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

Any other suggestions, We've been playing a bit of Danger Mouse, which went pretty okay.
I know there are a number of multiple choice games, but most of the ones I can think of are fairly dull (Mickey's Space Adventure, Gelfling Adventure etc) or too difficult (the Adrian Mole titles)

Other parser ...

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

Thanks for the input :thumb: I had thought about a multiple choice game but didn't know which one to get.
Something along the lines of Aztec Tomb would be nice. I honestly can't remember much of it.
To avoid scaring her away from the get-go, it's quite important that there aren't sudden death ...

Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

When I was learning English in grade school, my teacher wasn't terribly skilled - so I can say without hesitation that I've learned an awful lot from playing adventure games.

Now my daughter's ten, and she's been learning English for about a year and a half. She's awfully fond of reading (not in ...

It mentions several AGS games with a text parser.
Cool - thanks! Added one and will investigate the others. Leave no stone unturned!

AGS games

I've just added Trilby's Notes, which is an AGS game with a parser. Are there others, or do the rest have a normal point'n'click interface?

I realise that I could check them one by one, but since thousands of AGS games have been created, I'd rather be lazy and ask :)

Re: New game from Ron Gilbert

There's a measure of idealism and good faith in it - somebody has a great idea but lacks money.
The original premise is that unless people back it, the project never happens because the project owner doesn't have the necessary funds to finance it.
That's been my reasoning behind backing most of the ...

Re: New game from Ron Gilbert

Well, that's the usual crowdfunding issue. I've mainly been backing board games myself, as it is one of my major hobbies. Time and again I can see that the projects that fund easiest share one basic characteristic with the computer game projects: they look great. It's easier to show off something ...

Ha ha - either that's a major pat on his back for his writing skills, or an indication that the game's difficulty level is through the roof :)
Btw, if he has any trivia to share about the game, please drop me a line!
