Re: Synopsis - what to aim for?

One of the reasons for the difference in lengths of the synopses is that many of the games haven't been played, so the flavour text from inside the game (or inlay) is used. It makes it quick to add something, but some games vary it considerably.

Of course it'd be the prime situation if every game ...

Re: The Mystery of the Java Star

It certainly looks more like an arcade/puzzle game. So, to minimise confusion I've removed the game, until someone can persuade that it's IF.

Re: Starting guides for various platforms

One for the Sharp MZ range:

The Sharp MZ range

Sharp's foray into the home computer market included several machines that were biased towards business or simple home computing. The usual models that files can be found for are the MZ-80K, the MZ-80A, the MZ-700 and the MZ-800. The computers where ...

Re: House of Death - Oric/Atmos

Unfortunately it happens more often than not, fortunately the game was in BASIC so it was easy to fix (and I learnt a bit about the Oric as I did it)!

Re: House of Death - Oric/Atmos

I've tested it out now and discovered my error (I'd made some typos when retyping the BASIC line). I've updated the fixed game on the CASA page for HoD.

One note, as with most fixes, I can only guess that what I've done is what was intended by the author (and it makes sense, as it looks like only ...

Re: House of Death - Oric/Atmos

Argh! Is there any chance that you could PM me the moves to get to the crypt so I can test myself and have another go later?

Re: House of Death - Oric/Atmos

I found a way of doing it, byte 7 in the Oric .tap file indicates whether to autorun the game, if it's 0xc7 then it rooms, if it's 0x00 then it doesn't. So I set byte 7 to 0x00, loaded the file, amended the file, saved it and then reset byte 7 on the new file.

I've posted the file as a fixed game ...

Re: House of Death - Oric/Atmos

I've just whipped together an Oric BASIC detokeniser to try and understand what's going on here (it was easier than the others I've done). Give me some time to have a look through the code and I should be able to tell you whether it's a bug or a puzzle.

Looks like there's a bug in the code, the ...

Re: seventh star

Sorry for bumping up this really old thread. I found myself trying to solve this again and thinking "this feels familiar".

Jacob did you ever write up the solution, as it's missing on the archive? I've still got my map somewhere if needed.

Ah, that wasn't quite the same thing - Samwise's is better...

I'll try and do one for the Archimedes too.

Re: Starting guides for various platforms

I'm sure I wrote something like this for the Beeb a few years ago.

I'll try and hack summat together for the Sharp MZ series and the Einstein (I'm not an expert on the Einstein - but I did spend a while trying games on it). The Sharp MZ series is quite convoluted due to the cleanness of the ...

Re: New site - bug reports

Eek! that's nasty, something weird is definitely going up with the list. As a workaround, if you remove the platform (in this case it's not a problem as there is only one platform), then it works okay.

That's a bug. Unfortunately my development server died yesterday, losing my local copy of CASA ...

Re: Fixed games

I think, given the site isn't intended to host the original games, it should probably only host greatly modified games that have required a lot of time and/or skill to create. For single-issue fixes like this, I think a note in the hints and/or solution/walkthrough suffices. This also means that ...
