Re: Appleton/The Village... Original source?

Do we know if Walter Pooley also wrote the original version? It could be that it was the original Dragon version that was never released and he later Quilled his own game. Yeah, it could've been from his own Dragon game which itself wasn't released. Or it could be from his own Dragon game and the S...

Re: Appleton/The Village... Original source?

Thanks for looking.

It's possibly going to be a TRS-80 CoCo title then. Or the author has misremembered the source... It certainly wouldn't be the first time. :)

Appleton/The Village... Original source?

The Walter Pooley Quilled game, Appleton... http://solutionarchive.com/game/id%2C779/Appleton%2C+The.html ...has an comment in the database originating from the WOS archive, namely... "According to the author, this was a remake of an older Dragon game. It was never officially released." I've determi...

Re: The Dark Tower by Jack A. Lockerby

Ah, I thought the Quill C64 version was the first version of the game (on gamebase64.com the release date is 198?). Late 1980s/early 1990s homegrown text adventures for the C64 are not accurately recorded on sites like gamebase64. The Spectrum PAWed versions of Jack's games are the definitive versi...

Re: The Dark Tower by Jack A. Lockerby

It'll be down to memory limitations. The original River games were developed using the Quill on both the Spectrum and the C64. After the first year or so, all the old games (except the graphical Lifeboat) were ported to the PAW on the Spectrum, often getting expanded in the process with extra locati...

Re: The Dark Tower by Jack A. Lockerby

I can't see your images. That's a shame. I wonder why that is. I would suggest just using the existing message, "You can't make out what they say!" (You could, of course, borrow the more verbose lines from the Spectrum version as memory presumably isn't an issue in the version that you're making, u...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Is there actually anyone who has the motivation to make the PC changes, before changes in the categories are made? 1. I update all PC entries predating 199x to have MS-DOS as their platform directly in the database (Windows 3 was published in 1990), so games released prior to 1990 should be a safe M...

Re: The Dark Tower by Jack A. Lockerby

Only just managed to download the C64 version... Chrome has managed to drop support for the FTP links that GB64 uses. Grr. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that there should be UDGs printed when you try to read the runes without the correct glasses... That certainly would've been what Jack intended... Either h...

Re: The Dark Tower by Jack A. Lockerby

This is due to an error in Dorothy Millard's solution: in the place ROSE BUSHES, you should WEAR SPECS which allows to exchange the two objects. There may be a problem in the game with EXAMINE and READ. When you EXAMINE the runes without the right specs it says: "You can't make out what they say!",...

Re: The Dark Tower by Jack A. Lockerby

Quill performs a little differently than PAW, in that you don't generally necessarily have include a PRESENT check before a GET because it fails or succeeds in a slightly different manner. I'm just popping out now but I'll take a closer look later. It's perfectly possible that there might be a bugge...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Is there any reason you don't want to add "Browser" as a platform for ADRIFT games that are playable online? My only slight reluctance to include browser as a platform for ADRIFT games would be their reliance on the availability of Webrunner on the Adrift website... which historically has suffered ...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

The notes section is probably the best place to mention the flavour of Adrift needed, and also whether it plays in a browser. The lack of granularity in the "PC" platform can be a little irksome... especially as this is a "classic" adventure site covering a period where that moniker was so vague. DO...
