Re: CASA 20 years
Gee, now you lured an old dog (me) out from behind the oven... Has it been 20 years? Holy shit! I mean CONGRATULATIONS! You have done tremendous work over all those years, and made a huge contribution to gaming history. I took the liberty to share information about this site's anniversary on AtariAg...

Happy Birthday Jacob
What did I have to see here logging in today? You are more than a quarter of a year YOUNGER than me? You bastard! I feel old now...
Naaaah, just kidding. All the best, old man. Signed,
Mark (a slightly older man)

Re: Modern Point'n'Click Titles
Difference is that in MM or Zak, you could die or get irreversibly stuck. As such, their philosophy is closer to classic text adventures. Monkey Island was the first without death and one-way dead ends.
That'd be my classification. I leave a more accurate one to the more regular users here .

Re: Modern Point'n'Click Titles
Guess it begins roughly at "Maniac Mansion". Definetly at "Monkey Island", which, if I remember correctly, was the first game with no dead ends or dying involved. Though in MI1, you could die at one spot, if you tried really really hard .

Re: What games should we include?
You could always open a new category, called something like "CASA Exotics", "CASA Fringe", "CASA semiqualified" .

Re: vz200 Dracula's castle
True, the game seems to be deep in the grey zone at the margin of the genre. And I bet it's pretty shitty as well. Yet, with a bit of good will it can at least be called a "classic adventure". I'd vote for keeping it in the database, if only to preserve the little bit of coverage the archive has on ...

Re: Search by "date when added to site"?
A few options would do the trick just fine. Something like "added to database last week, last month, last 3 months, last year"

Search by "date when added to site"?
Read the most recent update, and wondered if it would be possible to add a search function to the advanced search, where I could look up the most recent additions to the database. Just an idea for specialized (narrow-minded?) people like me, hehe... Advantage for me would be: I could see in a moment...

Re: Egyptian Adventure - BBC Micro
Why not just write a hint sheet instead of a full walkthrough. You usually can do this from memory, and it's more fun for future players to have some guesswork left.

Re: Paul's 4k Adventure - coder's help needed (again)
Unless Dave does it, I can also "fix" the program a bit. You can't say that the player has to wear the armour of wield the sword to win, as it all comes down to semi-random numbers, but you can improve the odds a lot. Would be totally cool if you could do that. I think tuning damage with a sword to...

Re: Paul's 4k Adventure - coder's help needed (again)
The odds of you winning a fight seem a bit poor: you have a 3 in 5 chance of scoring a hit, for either 6-11, 12-25 or 18-30 points of damage, which with 294 enemy hits will take a while. The enemy, on the other hand has a 2 in 5 chance of scoring a hit for either 6-11 or 88 - 120 points of damage, ...

Re: Paul's 4k Adventure - coder's help needed (again)
Well, yes... the game is trash. It downright sucks. But you know me, Jacob. I seldom hesitate to play even the dumbest games around, hehe. Also, this specific author seems to have had a reputation as a sort of "Ed Wood of adventure games". Maybe it's sentimental, but I'd really like to play a few of...
