Re: Yes we have 1000 topics on the forum!!!

Nice work, people :) Here's to either a) the next 1000 topics or b) rampant activity in the existing ones.

Re: ADRIFT platforms

To sum up: For the time being, the PC platform remains as it is. I fully agree that it's not ideal, though. If anyone can come up with a scheme that magically solves all listed issues, I'm all ears :) @Garry: adding some rudimentary information about system requirements is fine. As long as it doesn'...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Thanks for making some excellent points, Hannes.

Does anyone else wish to weigh in? Should we split up WIndows? Split up PC at all?

Re: ADRIFT platforms

I don't see why PC Booter should have its own entry. Think of it this way, how many people will run the older PC titles native on hardware from that era as opposed to running those games on an emulator hosted on modern hardware? More recent Windows titles, however, will more likely be run native th...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Shows what I know. Thanks for clearing that up. So please help me make an informed decision. What is the aim of this platform clarification? Is it to make emulation easier or to make our information more precise? Also, Alastair suggested that it would be sufficient to split the Windows titles into a...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

I wouldn't mind having a go at it once in a while, say, during a lunch break. As long as people were comfortable with the fact that this update would take a while. And of course you're right about later Windows versions, but at least we could get quite far with *some* measure of fine tuning, ie. sea...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Ok, to make this as smooth and little work-intense as possible, here's my suggestion: Rather than going through each game one at a time, which would be very time consuming, may I suggestion the following: 1. I update all PC entries predating 199x to have MS-DOS as their platform directly in the data...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

If you ignore the UNIX-like OSes then it would probably be over 99%! For starters we could separate the Win 9x and NT games and classify them under the category of Windows platform, leaving the rest - including Windows 1.01 to Windows for Workgroups 3.11 - as being for the PC platform. What I am wa...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Let's be brutally honest, I think most people visit CASA to find hints or solutions to a game that they're already playing, not to find what games to play in the first place. Any information is better than no information at all. If that were the case, it would appear that all this work to improve o...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

This would bring up the matter of OS/2, C/PM-86, GEM, and any other operating system or environment created for the (IBM compatible) PC. Also, would "Windows" refer only to operating system Windows or would it include the environment version that runs on top of DOS? I could be wrong, but I think th...

Re: ADRIFT platforms

Thanks for weighing in. As always, input is appreciated :) @Denk: Yes, I think that adding the details in the notes would be fine. Thanks! Splitting PC up into DOS and WIndows makes sense, but I agree with Strident - given our resources it would be quite an undertaking. But it's not impossible. Can ...

i just re-read your interview with Jim. Fascinating stuff :thumb: I always found his Amiga games a bit overly complicated, but I should give them another go.

Re: Twine games?

As always, I'm a bit late to the party :) To the extent that it's possible, I'd rather not open this can of worms again, because there's a certain Catch 22 quality to it. The discussion seems to pop up from time to time. Each time I'm asked to make a "managerial" decision as site owner, and when I t...

Re: Juleadventurespil type-in from 'Hjemmedata'

As a native Danish speaker, I can confirm that both magazine and game are in Danish. But if I were to introduce a few spelling errors, it might as well be in Norwegian :) (in writing, to two languages are quite reminiscent)
