Re: The Orion Quest c64

The file I found was reachable through this link, but I just noticed it is a remote redirect away from 8bitfiles to the Unrenamed FTP Archive. In any case, that is a D64 copy apparently in good condition, but the tape file is a better preservation of the original in any case. Thanks for posting it.

Re: The Orion Quest c64

I received an answer. The version found on gamebase64 and most other websites is faulty. He sent me a copy of his own version. I solved the game. I'll update the map and upload a walkthrough. Appreciated, this is useful to know. For the record, the D64 file hosted on 8bitfiles seems to be in good c...

Re: The Orion Quest c64

The Spectrum version was advertised, but I have reason to think it was not released, since it was never reviewed nor mentioned as definitely existing. Happy if anyone can prove me wrong. By the looks of it not a lot was missed.

Re: Castle Blackstar - Getting past the dragon

I don't disagree, although no such hints are there. We could call that unfair; the game is from 1983, so adventure design was more unforgiving back then in general, and assuming this was designed as a puzzle, it was probably intended to be difficult, since it is near the endgame. Despite my falling ...

Re: Castle Blackstar - Getting past the dragon

Well, what do you know. I have finally solved the mystery. Thanks for the suggestion, but it turns out the game was perfectly emulated. The described sequence of events is fully reproducible on a different platform. I tried the PCW version of the game on an emulated 8256, just in case the logic was ...

Re: Castle Blackstar - Getting past the dragon

Alas, not the case. It was a good idea though, but I'm well aware of the quirks of Spectrum games. I used 48k mode without any peripherals and slow loading, so memory corruption due to hardware emulation side effects is most probably not a factor in this particular case.

Castle Blackstar - Getting past the dragon

I have a memory of having completed Castle Blackstar many years ago in its Spectrum version, and I have been replaying it this past week. Most of the puzzles I vaguely remembered, so I progressed quickly. But after solving the star (Hexagon Room) puzzle and finally getting to the orb, I'm mystified ...

Re: TAB - Windows IF/Text Adventure Maker

It had both in fact. Commands could be entered through a parser as well as programmed through point & click events or menu actions. Of course, it was limited in other aspects.

Re: TAB - Windows IF/Text Adventure Maker

I'm heavily reminded of the venerable "World Builder" for the Mac.

Re: Planet of Death

I believe, although I've never really gone through and checked, that the Spectrum 16K version had some content cut in order to fit it in... something to do with losing a bit of memory due to the differences in video display? I've no idea if this is the case and... I also think so. This makes sense ...

Re: Planet of Death

Given the very buggy nature of the original ZX81 version (and the Spectrum port) it would not surprise me if the Quilled versions coded certain things differently.

Re: Random game link failing

And you shouldn't use underscores '_' as a separator in filenames for screen grabs, maps and solutions. Once again, you should use hyphens '-'. May I ask why? It is a long standing convention to replace spaces with underscores for filenames in many file systems. I don't have a problem with using hy...

I also had the error message, just once. The submission shows up in the queue all right, though.
