Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

I also agree. I am intrigued by the foreign languages games, some of them look pretty, but I will never be able to play them. I respect those that do though. I think Alex has put it most succinctly, quality over quantity. For me it is all about adding synopses, reviews, maps and when I have time a s...

Nor do I Strident, I find them useful/interesting, I am stating that as the easy argument against.

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

I have an objection with whole idea of flooding the database with pointless (to most) space fillers. The easy argument against this is that there is already tat in there (MIA, unreleased games, games that are just rubbish!) but that is the legacy we have and even some of them have historical interes...

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

You are absolutely right Strident. Not all competition games are tat. I just happen to have been exposed to quite few, which has coloured my viewpoint. So! It looks, sadly, like stemming the flow is not possible. In that case, what can we do to shield the newcomers/adventure buffs from "24th of 35 i...

Glad you agree Mr Creosote! So let's get on with debating what to do then! :D

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

Ignorant and naive? I thought we were having a debate? I apologise for not being a master of all the facts like you Mr Creosote, but I am just stating my position based upon what I have seen happening to the website. I'm not saying my suggestions are the answer, I have already been convinced that so...

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

All I am doing is putting my opinion. I apologise if this offends you Mr Creosote, but I love the site and wanted to state my position. Let's be honest for a lot of us this isn't about the future, it's a retro scene. Maybe my point about a separate database is valid if this is such a burgeoning scene?

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

Fair enough Alastair, I played one and never went back too. I just don't think they fit with the overall tone of the database. Maybe a separate database should be made for them? In the same way WoS separates Adventures and other games? It is a serious question, sorry Garry I'm not looking to cause g...

Re: Genre Suggestions

Some interesting points here. But does anyone really play and enjoy Speed IF or competition games?

If you do Garry, fair play, you are possibly the only one.

They are just clutter that detract from a fantastic resource.

Re: Genre Suggestions

Oh my word I don't like the look of this! There are already too many Speed IF games in the database. Let's be honest, these are not games that are intended for future play anyway. As it is the database is filling with games with no play potential. Now what is the purpose of the database? It's a reco...

New Synopses

Sorry! I have just updated the synopses for:
Pharaoh, White Palm and Martec's Tomb.
I made a complete mess of it first time though.
Please could you delete all but the last three more detailed versions I sent?
Sorry again!

Re: What games should we include?

Thanks for the swift response. Glad to see I'm not alone. Your description has convinced me further that the flow should at least be stemmed. It may be only 1 in 30 now, but that number is rising rapidly. I used to click through new additions on the monthly updates, but the number has risen dramatic...

Re: What games should we include?

I believe it should be mostly text adventures. Obviously illustrated ones fall into that too, but once you get into the realms of RPG and point and click it doesn't really work. My biggest issue is Speed IF entries. These are starting to take over the database. I would be surprised if anyone has gre...
