It's 2:00 a.m. and it's late night movie night at your place. Your friends are here, the DVD Ragnarok: Twilight of the Gods is in the combination TV/DVD player and you're ready to start the movie. Well, almost.
Within a few moves, you find that Lisa is settled into the big armchair, but she wants popcorn. Thor is hanging out on the couch when he accidentally releases a lightning bolt and the power goes out.
"Oops," rumbles Thor, "Did I do that?"
A minor setback. Can you get the power back on, satisfy your friends and get the movie started?
This was an entry in The penultimate not numbered New Year’s Speed IF.
The title is a reference to a series of future events in Norse mythology, including a great battle that results in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin and Thor), the occurrence of various natural disasters and the submersion of the world in water. The events are documented in the prose Edda and a poem in the poetic Edda, both compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources. It is also popularised in the last of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen operas.
