It all began one rainy morning in the town of Bristol, in the year of Our Lord, Seventeen Hundred and Twenty Six. My poor parents departed this life with the consumption and I was sent to the orphanage.
Then one afternoon, while picking pockets in the town square, I chanced to spy a poster seeking sailors for a voyage to the colonies. I tore it from the post and shoved it in my pocket, determined that I would make good my escape from the orphanage that very night.
And what a night I chose to flee! The eaves of the surrounding buildings afforded me some reprieve from the elements, and I laid my weary young head upon my blanket and drifted into an uneasy slumber.
I awoke as dawn inched its cold gray fingers across Bristol's rooftops. The rain had ceased, and the rousing air of distant accordion music was carried to my ears by the gentle morning breeze...
