Synopsis

SPELLBREAKER, the riveting conclusion to the ENCHANTER trilogy, explores the mysterious underpinnings of the Zorkian universe. A world founded on sorcery suddenly finds its magic failing, and only you, leader of the Circle of Enchanters, can uncover and destroy the cause of this paralyzing chaos. The very core of your civilization is under siege, and only a perilous journey through the black foundation of magic itself will yield a chance for survival. And although your triumph over this unknown Evil is uncertain, you must embark without hesitation and prove yourself the worthiest mage in the land.

I guess I'd like to call this my favourite in the Enchanter trilogy, but it's just too damned hard :)

It is definitely my Infocom favourite, along with Trinity, for different reasons. The unusual structure and narrative device is compelling to me, as is the free-form, constructive design. Regarding difficulty, it's a relative thing: I managed to solve it with no help many years ago, but then again the kind of composite puzzles it has are the kind I enjoy solving (how to get the cube from the roc's nest is probably one of the most involved, as it requires solving several other seemingly unrelated puzzles first). I still replay it on occasion when I start to forget the little details, and enjoy it every time.
