Synopsis

Plot

Welcome to the Enchanted Forest.

Your objective is to collect and store all the treasures. A treasure is recognised by being marked [treasure]. You must use two word English sentences but have the following single word commands available: HELP * SCORE * QUIT * INVENTORY.

You have one year to complete your task - each move takes one day.

If you should die, you may recover but, your possessions will be scattered and you won't be able to carry as much.

If you have not read Enid Blyton a word about the FARAWAY TREE - there are different lands revolving every now and again at the top. You may find other lands when you next visit.

From the Molimerx Catalogue:

This is the first in the Trilogy and is aimed at family participation. Its theme is fairy stories and nursery rhymes that all interconnect to provide "souvenir" treasures from the stores. We have found that these stories have a "captivating" effect on young children, whilst the parents will probably be required to provide vocabulary and perhaps "adventure experience" in solving some of the problems. The game has thirty-six locations and over thirty moveable objects. The player will have to travel through secret passages, grottos, waterfalls, caves, candy houses and many other interesting locations.

Notes

Original published by Molimerx for the TRS-80.

The game appears in Molimerx advertising and catalogues from 1982, but it seems to have its first mention in the January 1982 issue of Computer & Video Games magazine (published late 1981) where is is referred to as Dreamworld; a title which would be later used for the third game in the series.

Later translated from Level 2 TRS-80 BASIC and published for the BBC Microcomputer by Molimerx Ltd. The BBC port was by Steve Willis.

Unofficially (?) ported to the Archimedes by teacher William Stott of Deanesfield Primary School around the year 2000. William later made other RiscOS and Z-machine versions of the game. The RisOS versions of Fairytale Adventure included a basic version with 16-colour graphics for RiscOS 2 or 3, an enhanced version with 256-colour graphics (and onscreen map & objects) for RiscOS 2 upwards, and a version for RiscPC running RiscOS 3 onwards.

William Stott's Inform version had a text-only version for Frotz and an enhanced version for Glulxe with an on-screen map, pictures and sampled sounds.

The solution attached works for the Archimedes version as is. For it to work with the Molimerx BBC version, type 'GO WEST' instead of just 'W', 'TAKE' instead of 'GET'.
