As a member of a band of rebels planning to attack the evil King Safuis II, you have been captured by the King's secret police and thrown into the Dungeon of the Gods. Legends say that the dungeon contains a special chest called the Chest of the Gods which has the power to destroy the king and his forces. Your job is to escape from your cell, find the Chest of the Gods and any other treasures and ultimately escape from the dungeon so that the rebels can use the power of the chest to overthrow the evil King.
This adventure was originally written for the TRS-80 by Ray Sato, ported to the the Apple II by Alex Lee, ported to the Atari 400/800 by Rich Bouchard and all three versions published in SoftSide magazine, issue 30, vol. 5, no. 9, June 1982, pp. 26-42. Corrections to the Atari version were published in SoftSide, issue 33, vol. 5, no. 12, September 1982, p. 52. The Apple version was reprinted in The Best of SoftSide Apple edition, pp. ?-?.
It was (probably unofficially) published Keypunch Software as 'Escape from the Dungeon of Despair' and placed on an Atari 400/800 compilation disk called 'Dungeons of Despair', along with 'Alaskan Adventure' and 'Kidnapped'.
This was unofficially ported to the Commodore 64 by Steve Reece and published by The Guild Adventure Software.
Jim Gerrie has created a version of the game for the TRS-80 MC-10.
