Synopsis

Dear editors at the Monthly Digest. I'd like to send the following question to the Qs & As: is it possible to use Pestinict or another ordinary household poison to put down a 40 kg animal? Would it suffer? Answer is needed urgently. Yours truly -

You stop writing and sigh deep into your hands. You wish you could go on just ignoring this problem, pretending that everything is all right under this roof... as usual.

The letter is a last-ditch effort to reach someone, anyone, for guidance. If only you weren't so alone.

You close your eyes and hold your breath without thinking of anything. Like a small glimpse of oblivion, it's a welcome respite from what awaits you in the present day.

You can still hear it crawling in the next room over.
