Introduction =============================================================================== Published in 1984, Adventure G: Ground Zero is the seventh in a series of eight interactive fiction adventures made by Artic Computing. This game takes place in the hours before and the two weeks after a nuclear explosion. The aim is to gather enough food and water to survive in the bunker for two weeks. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== The game starts in the lounge. EXAMINE SHELVES to find keys. GET KEYS. Move SOUTH to the entrance hall. OPEN CUPBOARD to find a torch. GET TORCH. Move UP and WEST to the box room. EXAMINE CHEST to find a radio. GET RADIO. Move EAST and NORTH to the bedroom. OPEN WARDROBE to find banknotes. GET BANKNOTES. Move SOUTH and DOWN to the entrance hall. OPEN DOOR. Move WEST to exit the house. CLOSE DOOR. LOCK DOOR with the keys to prevent looters entering the house. Move NORTH three times and EAST three times to the end of the lane. DROP BANKNOTES and the crowd will make a dash for the money. Move EAST to enter the grocery shop. GIVE RADIO to the man behind the counter. GET LOAF. Move WEST four times and SOUTH three times to arrive outside the house. UNLOCK DOOR with the keys. OPEN DOOR. Move EAST to return to the entrance hall in the house. CLOSE DOOR. LOCK DOOR with the keys. Move EAST to the kitchen. GET KNIFE. CUT LOAF with the knife to make six slices of bread. DROP KNIFE. GET BREAD. OPEN CUPBOARD to find one week's rations. GET RATIONS. Move SOUTH to the utility room. UNLOCK DOOR to the back garden. OPEN DOOR. Move EAST to the back garden. DROP TORCH. DROP KEYS. DROP RATIONS. DROP BREAD. Move WEST twice to the garage. EXAMINE GARAGE to find a ladder rack. GET LADDER. EXAMINE BICYCLE to find a saddlebag. EXAMINE SADDLEBAG to find wire cutters. GET CUTTERS. Move EAST twice to the back garden. DROP CUTTERS. Move SOUTH to the top of the wall using the ladder. GET LADDER. Move SOUTH to Mr. Hodges' back garden. EXAMINE BUSHES to find a tool shed. ENTER SHED. GET BUCKET. EXAMINE SHAVINGS to find an axe. GET AXE. Move WEST, NORTH twice, WEST, NORTH, WEST, UP and EAST to the bathroom. FILL BATH. FILL BUCKET from the bath. Move WEST, DOWN, EAST, SOUTH and EAST to the back garden. CUT CONIFERS with the axe to reveal an exit to the north. DROP AXE. GET CUTTERS. GET TORCH. GET RATIONS. Move NORTH to the middle of the conifer trees. CUT FENCE with the cutters to create a gap. Move NORTH twice to the end of the path. PUSH BUTTON. When the voice asks who it is, answer GENERAL and the door will open. Turn the TORCH ON. Move DOWN twice to the concrete room. DROP BUCKET. DROP RATIONS. Move UP twice and SOUTH to the compound. CUT FENCE with the wire cutters. Move SOUTH twice to the back garden. GET BREAD. Move NORTH to the conifer trees. CUT FENCE with the cutters to create a gap. DROP CUTTERS. Move NORTH twice and DOWN to the concrete steps. CLOSE DOOR. Move DOWN to the small concrete room. GET BUCKET. GET RATIONS. Keep entering WAIT and a siren will start to wail. Keep entering WAIT until the blast jolts the shelter. The aim now is to survive the next two weeks in the shelter. Day 1: Move WEST to the concrete room. PULL LEVER and fresh air will fill the shelter. Move EAST to the small concrete room. SLEEP. Days 2-8: DRINK from the bucket. EAT RATION. Move WEST to the concrete room. PULL LEVER and fresh air will fill the shelter. Move EAST to the small concrete room. SLEEP. Days 9-14: DRINK from the bucket. EAT BREAD. Move WEST to the concrete room. PULL LEVER and fresh air will fill the shelter. Move EAST to the small concrete room. SLEEP. After two weeks have passed, PUSH BUTTON to hear the radio announcement. Move UP to the concrete steps. OPEN DOOR. Move UP to complete the game. =============================================================================== 3. Item List =============================================================================== BANKNOTES Found by opening the wardrobe in the bedroom. They are dropped at the end of the lane to clear the crowd from the grocery shop entrance. BICYCLE Found in the garage. It can be ridden west to make the mangled bicycle. BUCKET OF WATER After the bath has been filled in the bathroom, the bucket is filled from the bath. Drink the water in the shelter. BUNCH OF KEYS Found by examining the shelves in the lounge. The keys are used to lock the front door to the house to prevent looters from entering. The keys are also used to unlock the door in the utility room leading to the back garden. KITCHEN KNIFE Found in the kitchen. It is used to cut the small loaf to make six pieces of bread. LADDER Found by examining the garage. It is used to climb to the top of the stone wall in the back garden. After being taken while on top of the stone wall, the ladder is then used to climb back from Mr. Hodges' back garden. LARGE EMPTY BUCKET Found in the tool shed in Mr. Hodges' back garden. After the bath has been filled in the bathroom, the bucket is filled from the bath. LIT TORCH Made by turning on the torch. It provides light in the shelter. MANGLED BICYCLE Found by taking the bicycle and then riding it west. It is not used. MATTRESS Found in the bedroom. It is not used. ONE WEEK'S RATIONS Found by opening the cupboard in the kitchen. Eat the rations in the shelter. RADIO Found by examining the chest in the box room. It is given to the man in the grocery shop so that the small loaf can be taken. SIX SLICES OF BREAD Made by using the kitchen knife to cut the small loaf. Eat the bread in the shelter. SMALL AXE Found by examining the wood shavings in the tool shed in Mr. Hodges' back garden. It is used to cut the conifers in the back garden to reveal the exit to the north. SMALL LOAF Found in the grocery shop after the radio has been given to the man. The kitchen knife is used to cut the small loaf to make six pieces of bread. TORCH Found by opening the cupboard in the entrance hall. It is turned on to make the lit torch. WIRE CUTTERS Found by examining the saddlebag on the bicycle in the garage. They are used to cut the fence leading to and from the compound. =============================================================================== 4.
