Introduction =============================================================================== The Arnold the Adventure series is a trilogy of interactive fictions adventures on the ZX Spectrum made by Delbert the Hamster Software. The third game was published in 1992, and the aim is to cure Winthorpe the wizard of the Wizarditis disease by giving him the Goblet of Goodness. There are less locations to explore than there were in the second game, although lots of backtracking is needed between these areas so the game definitely feels a lot bigger than it actually is. As usual the entire game is described well, and a big plus is that there are no red herring items or dead end locations. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== The game starts in Winthorpe's shack. Move NORTH and NORTHEAST to the twisted path. INSERT HAND into the tree to take a large nut. Move SOUTHWEST and SOUTH to Winthorpe's shack. DIP NUT IN CAULDRON. LOOK UNDER TABLE to see the word "silly". SAY SILLY and a wooden box will fall out of the cupboard. GET BOX. Move NORTH, NORTHWEST and WEST to the bracken-covered path. Move WEST again and a wolfhound will drop down onto the path. WAVE NUT to attract the wolfhound's attention. THROW NUT and the wolfhound will chase after it. Move WEST to the small clearing. SEARCH STUMP to find an axe. GET AXE. Move EAST twice, SOUTHEAST and NORTHEAST to the twisted path. CHOP TREE with the axe to make a log. ROLL LOG to the foot of the hillock. WEDGE LOG under the pebbles to make a sturdy path. Move UP to the top of the small hillock. SIT ON TOADSTOOL to snap it. GET TOADSTOOL. Move DOWN, NORTH, SOUTHWEST, NORTHWEST and NORTH to the bank of the river. GIVE TOADSTOOL to the frog and it will hop away. Move NORTH to the gravel path. WAIT and a troll will get robbed. FILL BOX WITH GRAVEL. SHAKE BOX and the robbers will leave. Move EAST to the path near the hamlet. SEARCH GRAVEL to find a bronze coin. GET COIN. Move NORTHEAST and NORTH to the centre of the hamlet to see a crowd walk past. Move SOUTH, SOUTHWEST, WEST twice, NORTHWEST, DOWN and NORTHWEST to the small gap. REACH UNDER CANOPY to find a chair leg. GET LEG. Move SOUTHEAST and NORTH to enter the tent. SEARCH CROWD to take a cabbage. Move SOUTH, UP, SOUTHEAST, EAST twice, NORTHEAST and NORTH twice to the vegetable stall. GIVE CABBAGE to the man and he will let Arnold enter the cramped shed. SEARCH RUBBISH to find a fruit machine. SEARCH RUBBISH again to find a glass. GET GLASS. INSERT COIN into the fruit machine. PULL HANDLE to win a club. GET CLUB. HIT MACHINE and the coin will drop out. GET COIN. Move SOUTH twice and WEST to the pots and pans stall. GIVE COIN to the woman to see a cooking pot. GET POT. Move EAST, SOUTH, SOUTHWEST, WEST twice, NORTHWEST, DOWN and NORTH to enter the tent. WEAR POT. CLIMB IN CANNON to receive a gold piece from the Balrog Brothers. Move UP, SOUTHEAST, EAST and NORTH to the bowling green. TALK MEN and one of the men will ask if Arnold could take his shot. SAY YES to the man to receive the bowling ball. BOWL BALL. RETRIEVE BALL and Arnold will find the man's glasses. The man lets Arnold keep the bowling ball. Move EAST, NORTHEAST, NORTH and EAST to the west side of the bridge. DROP GOLD piece and the troll will bend over to pick it up. HIT TROLL with the club and he will run away. GET GOLD piece. Move EAST to the other side of the bridge. DROP GLASS and it will break. GET FRAGMENT of glass. CUT TAPE with the fragment of glass. GET TAPE. Move WEST twice and NORTHWEST to the waste ground to see a hysterical woman. SLAP WOMAN to calm her. TIE CLUB to the tape. LOWER CLUB to pull the man out of the pit. He gives Arnold a rock. Move SOUTHEAST and SOUTH to the gravel path near the hamlet. EXAMINE COTTAGE to see planks on the window. LEVER PLANKS with the chair leg. CLIMB IN WINDOW to enter the cottage. DROP BALL to make a hole in the floor. TIP WARDROBE and it will fall through the hole in the floor. Move DOWN to the bottom of the hole. HIT WARDROBE with the club to make firewood. GET FIREWOOD. Move EAST to the small cavern. STOKE FIRE and the flowergirl will cry. HUG FLOWERGIRL and she will lead Arnold to the empty room in the flowerpeople's kingdom. Move NORTH to the iron door. EXAMINE WALL to see a mousehole. INSERT HAND into the mousehole to find a golden apple. GET APPLE. Move SOUTH and WEST to the featureless room. EAT APPLE and Arnold will feel a surge of energy. EAT ROPE and it will fall to the floor. GET ROPE. Move EAST twice to the large stone room. TIE ROPE to the well. Move DOWN to the bottom of the well. FEEL BRICK to touch a weak brick. KICK WEAK BRICK to make a hole in the wall. Move EAST to the small hollow. GET KEY. Move WEST, UP, WEST and NORTH twice to the large cavern. EXAMINE PEDESTAL to see the goblet of goodness. GET GOBLET to return to the gravel path near the hamlet. Move SOUTHWEST to the path to see the tooth fairy. GIVE GOLD piece to the tooth fairy and he will fly away. Move WEST and SOUTH to see the stepping stones burst into flame. THROW ROCK into the river and a hand will lift Arnold across to the other side. Move SOUTH, SOUTHEAST and SOUTH to enter Winthorpe's shack. GIVE GOBLET to Winthorpe to complete the game. =============================================================================== 3. Item List =============================================================================== AXE Found by searching the stump in the small clearing. It is used to chop the tree on the twisted path. BOOK Found by examining the bookshelf in Winthorpe's shack. The book can be read to see a description of the Wizarditis disease. BOWLING BALL Received from the man at the bowling green after talking to the men and answering yes when asked if Arnold could take his shot. It is bowled down the green and then retrieved to find the man's glasses. It is dropped inside the cottage to make a hole in the floor. BRONZE COIN After the troll has been robbed on the gravel path and the robbers have been scared off by shaking the wooden box, the bronze coin is found by searching the gravel on the gravel path near the hamlet. It is inserted into the fruit machine in the cramped shed. After pulling the handle to win the club, hit the machine and the coin will drop out again. It is given to the woman behind the pots and pans stall in the hamlet to buy the cooking pot. CABBAGE Found by searching the crowd inside the circus tent. It is given to the man behind the vegetable stall in the hamlet. CHAIR LEG Found by reaching under the canopy of the circus tent in the small gap. It is used to lever the planks of the cottage window on the path near the hamlet. CLUB Found by inserting the bronze coin into the fruit machine in the cramped shed and then pulling the handle. After the gold piece has been dropped at the west side of the bridge in the hamlet, the club is used to hit the troll. The length of tape is tied to the club to make the club tied to some tape. CLUB TIED TO SOME TAPE Made by tying the tape to the club. It is lowered on the cobblestone highway to rescue the man and receive the extremely interesting rock. It is used to hit the wardrobe at the bottom of the hole in the cottage to make firewood. COOKING POT Found by giving the bronze coin to the woman behind the pots and pans stall in the hamlet. It is worn before climbing into the cannon in the circus tent. EXTREMELY INTERESTING ROCK Found by lowering the club tied to some tape on the cobblestone highway to rescue the man. It is thrown into the river after the stepping stones have burst into flame. FIREWOOD Found by using the club tied to some tape on the wardrobe at the bottom of the hole in the cottage. It is used to stoke the fire in the small cavern. FRAGMENT OF GLASS Found by dropping the glass. It is used to cut the tape on the east side of the bridge in the hamlet. GLASS Found by searching the rubbish twice in the cramped shed. It is dropped to make the fragment of glass. GOBLET OF GOODNESS Found by examining the pedestal in the large cavern in the flowerpeople's kingdom. It is given to Winthorpe in the shack. GOLD PIECE Received from the Great Balrog Brothers after Arnold has climbed into the cannon in the circus tent while wearing the cooking pot. It is dropped at the west side of the bridge in the hamlet to make the troll bend over. After the troll has been hit with the club, the gold piece is picked up again. It is given to the tooth fairy on the gravel path after collecting the goblet of goodness. GOLDEN APPLE Found by inserting Arnold's hand into the mousehole near the iron door in the flowerpeople's kingdom. It is eaten in the featureless room to give Arnold enough energy to eat the rope. KEY Found in the small hollow in the flowerpeople's kingdom. It allows Arnold to pass by the iron door in the flowerpeople's kingdom. LARGE NUT Found by inserting Arnold's hand into the hole in the tree on the twisted path. It is dipped into the cauldron in Winthorpe's shack. It is waved on the bracken-covered path to attract the wolfhound's attention, and is then thrown away to make the wolfhound leave the bracken-covered path. LARGE TOADSTOOL Found by sitting on the toadstool on top of the hillock. It is given to the frog at the bank of the river. LENGTH OF ROPE Found in the featureless room in the flowerpeople's kingdom by eating the golden apple and then eating the rope. It is tied to the well in the large stone room. LENGTH OF TAPE Found by using the fragment of glass to cut the tape on the east side of the bridge in the hamlet. It is tied to the club to make the club tied to some tape. WOODEN BOX Found by entering SAY SILLY while in Winthorpe's shack. After waiting on the gravel path until the troll is robbed, the wooden box is filled with gravel from the gravel path and is then shaken to make the robbers leave. =============================================================================== 4. Point List =============================================================================== 1 1 Insert hand into the tree on the twisted path to find the nut. 2 1 SAY SILLY in Winthorpe's shack to find the wooden box. 3 1 Wave the nut at the wolfhound and then throw it. 4 1 Search the stump in the small clearing to find the axe. 5 1 Chop the tree on the twisted path with the axe. 6 1 Wedge the log at the foot of the small hillock. 8 2 Wait on the gravel path for the troll to get robbed. 12 4 Shake the box with gravel to make the robbers leave. 15 3 Search the gravel to find the bronze coin. 19 4 Reach under the canopy in the small gap to find the chair leg. 23 4 Search the crowd in the circus tent to receive a cabbage. 26 3 Search the rubbish in the cramped shed to find a fruit machine. 30 4 Search the rubbish again in the cramped shed to find a glass. 34 4 Insert the coin and pull the fruit machine handle to win a club. 37 3 Wear the cooking pot and climb into the cannon in the circus tent. 41 4 Bowl the bowling ball down the bowling green. 45 4 Retrieve the bowling ball to return the glasses to the man. 49 4 Cut the tape on the bridge with the fragment of glass. 53 4 Slap the hysterical woman on the highway. 57 4 Lower the club tied with some tape on the highway to get the rock. 60 3 Lever the planks on the cottage window with the chair leg. 64 4 Drop the bowling ball in the cottage to make a hole in the floor. 68 4 Tip wardrobe in the cottage to make it fall through the hole. 70 2 Hit the wardrobe with the club to make firewood. 74 4 Stoke the fire in the small cavern with the firewood. 78 4 Hug the flowergirl to enter the flowerpeople's kingdom. 81 3 Insert hand into the mousehole near the iron door to see an apple. 85 4 Eat the apple and then eat the rope in the featureless room. 88 3 Kick the weak brick at the bottom of the well. 89 1 Examine the pedestal in the large cavern to see the goblet. 90 1 Throw the extremely interesting rock into the river. 100 10 Give the goblet of goodness to Winthorpe in the shack. =============================================================================== 5.
