Introduction =============================================================================== The Arnold the Adventure series is a trilogy of interactive fictions adventures on the ZX Spectrum made by Delbert the Hamster Software. The second game was published in 1991, and the aim is to rescue Winthorpe the wizard from a large spider and once again to defeat the evil Schwartze. There are many more locations than in the first game, although not all need to be visited. Deaths occur often if the wrong location is visited or the wrong action is performed, making it important to save frequently in this game. There are plenty of inventory items to use and interesting characters to meet along the way. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== The game starts in Arnold's house. EXAMINE UNDER STOVE to find a match. GET MATCH. SIT ON CHAIR and the chair will break. GET LEG. Move EAST to the garden. EXAMINE VEGETABLES to find a spade. GET SPADE. Move NORTH, EAST, SOUTHEAST, SOUTH and SOUTHEAST to the ruins of the mansion. EXAMINE RUBBLE to find a rock. GET ROCK. Move NORTHWEST, NORTH, NORTHWEST and NORTH twice to the bridge. EXAMINE CAGE to see sawdust and a hamster wheel. GET SAWDUST. GET WHEEL. Move SOUTH and EAST to the field. GIVE WHEEL to the farmer. Move SOUTH to arrive outside the barn. DIG with the spade to find a gold piece. GET GOLD. Move EAST into the barn. BURN STRAW with the match to reveal a spoon. GET SPOON. Move WEST, NORTH, WEST and NORTH three times to the crowded market place to receive a cabbage from the hermit. Move WEST and NORTH to the shop. BUY AXE with the gold piece to receive the axe and an oil pouch. Move EAST twice and NORTH to enter the inn. LIFT LID of the piano to get some wire. Move UP and EAST to the main bedroom. EXAMINE UNDER BED to find a pen. GET PEN. LIFT RUG to reveal floorboards. PRISE FLOORBOARD WITH PEN. INSERT HAND under the floorboard to get a map. GET MAP. Move SOUTH to the toilet. PULL CHAIN twice to take it. Move NORTH, WEST, DOWN, SOUTH, WEST and NORTH to the winding street. GIVE CABBAGE to the boy to receive the beans. Move NORTH and WEST to the main room of the kennels. BLOW SAWDUST at the attendant and he will leave the room. Move NORTH to the small room to see Tharg the wolf. PICK LOCK using the wire from the piano to open the cage. Tharg will now follow Arnold for the rest of the game. Move SOUTH, EAST and NORTH to the dusty track. GIVE SPOON to the woman and she will leave. Move NORTH to the bare field to receive a magazine from the hamster. Move SOUTH eight times, WEST twice, SOUTHWEST and SOUTH twice to the steep cliff. GET FEATHER. Move NORTH twice to the lake shore. BOARD BOAT to sail across to the island. Move WEST to the forest. GIVE MAGAZINE to the adventurer. Move NORTHWEST to the river bank. CHOP TREE with the axe to make a bridge over the river. Move WEST, NORTH, UP, WEST and NORTHWEST to the stone wall. EXAMINE WALL to see footholes. CLIMB WALL to the ledge. Move WEST to another stone wall. EAT BEANS. JUMP TO LEDGE. TIE CHAIN TO HANDLE of the door. PULL CHAIN to make the boulder fall down. Move EAST to become lost in the winding tunnels. READ MAP to arrive in the dungeons. Move EAST to the small room. THROW ROCK AT SHELF to knock down the key. GET KEY. Move WEST and NORTH to arrive outside the cell. TICKLE GUARD with feather. EXAMINE GUARD to see a sword. GET SWORD. UNLOCK DOOR with the key to enter the empty cell. EXAMINE UNDER BED to see a tunnel. Move DOWN and SOUTHEAST to the large cave. KILL SPIDER with the sword to save Winthorpe. CUT WEB to free Winthorpe. Move EAST, NORTH and UP to the top of the stone steps. PUSH BUTTON on the wall to arrive in the hallway of the mansion. Move NORTH and EAST twice to the kitchen. OPEN CUPBOARD to see a jam jar. GET JAR. Move WEST twice to the plush lounge. EXAMINE BOOKCASE to see a handle. OIL HANDLE with the oil pouch. PULL HANDLE to reveal a secret room to the north. Move NORTH to the secret room. JUMP ON TABLE to move closer to the hatch. Move UP to the master bedroom. PUSH WARDROBE to reveal a secret tunnel. Move EAST twice and UP to the large room, where Winthorpe cast a spell that shrinks Schwartze. GET SCHWARTZE. PUT SCHWARTZE IN JAR to complete the game. =============================================================================== 3. Item List =============================================================================== AXE Purchased from the shop with the gold piece. It is used to chop the tree at the bank of the river. BEANS Found by giving the cabbage to the boy on the winding street. They are eaten before jumping up to the second ledge in the cave. CABBAGE Received from the hermit in the crowded market place. It is given to the boy on the winding street to receive the beans. CHAIN Found by pulling the chain twice in the toilet of the inn. It is tied to the handle of the door on the second ledge in the cave. CHAIR LEG Found by sitting on the chair in Arnold's house. It is used to row the boat. FEATHER Found at the steep cliff. It is used to tickle the guard outside the cell in the dungeons. GOLD PIECE Found by using the spade to dig outside the barn. It is used to buy the axe and the oil pouch from the shop. HANDFUL OF SAWDUST Found by examining the cage on the bridge. It is blown at the attendant in the main room of the kennels to make him leave the room. JAM JAR Found in the cupboard in the mansion kitchen. Schwartze is put in the jam jar after Winthrope has used the spell to shrink him. KEY Found by throwing the rock at the shelf in the small room of the dungeons. It is used to unlock the cell door in the dungeons. MAGAZINE Received from Halbert the hamster in the bare field. It is given to the adventurer in the island forest. MAP After the floorboards have been prised with the pen in the main bedroom of the inn, Arnold's hand is inserted to find the map. It is read after becoming lost in the many winding tunnels of the dungeon. MATCH Found by examining under the stove in Arnold's house. It is used to burn the straw in the barn to reveal a spoon. OIL POUCH Purchased from the shop with the gold piece. After the bookcase has been examined in the plush lounge in the mansion, the oil pouch is used to oil the handle. PEN Found by examining under the bed in the main bedroom of the inn. It is used to prise the floorboards under the rug in the main bedroom of the inn. ROCK Found by examining the rubble at the ruins of the mansion. It is thrown at the shelf in the small room of the dungeons to knock down the key. SHINY COIN Received from the peasant outside the mansion. It is not used. SPADE Found by examining the vegetables in Arnold's garden. It is used to dig outside the barn to find the gold piece. SPOON Found by burning the straw in the barn with the match. It is given to the woman on the dusty track to make her move away from the north exit. SWORD Found by examining the guard outside the cell in the dungeons after he has been tickled with the feather. It is used to kill the spider in the large cave. WHEEL Found by examining the cage on the bridge. It is given to the farmer in the field so that he will move his cart away from the south exit. WIRE Found by lifting the lid of the piano in the inn. It is used to pick the lock of Tharg's cage in the small room of the kennels. =============================================================================== 4.
