Introduction =============================================================================== The Open Door is a very short interactive fiction adventure published by Tartan Software in 1988. The aim of the game is to travel from the cliff top to a door on the first floor of a house. There are lots of items for such a short game, but the difficulty level is very easy and it can be completed quickly. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== The game starts on the cliff top. Move WEST to the west end of the cliff top. GET WAND. Move EAST twice to the east end of the cliff top. THROW WAND and it will land in the pool below. GET ROPE. Move WEST to the cliff top. TIE ROPE to the pole. Move DOWN, EAST, IN and DOWN to the bottom of the pool. GET WAND. Move UP, OUT, WEST and NORTH to the entrance porch. WAVE WAND and a wizard will give you the police spell. Move NORTH to the front hall of the house. Move WEST to the study. OPEN DRAWER of the desk to see a piece of paper. GET PAPER. Move NORTH to the library. EXAMINE PAINTING to see that the signature is Constable. CAST POLICE spell and the painting will swing away to reveal a safe. READ PAPER to see four numbers that are different each time the game is played. DROP PAPER. DIAL (numbers from the piece of paper) and the safe will open to reveal a brass key. GET KEY. Move EAST to the lounge. OPEN CUPBOARD to find a torch battery. GET BATTERY. Move SOUTH and EAST to the kitchen. OPEN CABINET and a torch will fall out. GET TORCH. INSERT BATTERY into the torch. Turn the TORCH ON. Move DOWN to the cellar. UNLOCK CHEST with the brass key and the magician will give you the Heinz spell. Move UP to the kitchen. OPEN DOOR. Move EAST twice to the shed. GET SPADE. Move WEST, NORTH and EAST twice to the end of the garden. DIG with the spade to find a bone. Move IN to the hole. GET BONE. Move UP, WEST twice, SOUTH, WEST twice and UP to the west end of the corridor. GIVE BONE to the dog. Move EAST twice to the east end of the corridor. CAST HEINZ spell on the door to complete the game. =============================================================================== 3. Item List =============================================================================== CRACKED GLASS WAND Found at the bottom of the cliff if the magic glass wand is thrown off the wrong area. It is not used and the game will need to be restarted. HEINZ SPELL Found after the shiny brass key has been used to unlock the chest in the cellar. It is cast at the east end of the corridor on the first floor of the house to complete the game. LARGE JUICY BONE After the spade has been used to dig at the end of the garden, the bone is found by moving west and then east to the deep hole. It is given to the dog at the west end of the corridor on the first floor of the house. LONG LENGTH OF ROPE Found at the east end of the cliff top. It is tied to the pole on the cliff top so that it can be climbed down to the jagged rocks. MAGIC GLASS WAND Found at the west end of the cliff top. It is thrown from the east end of the cliff top so that it lands in the pool of water below. The magic wand is then found again at the bottom of the pool. It is waved at the entrance porch of the house to open the door and receive the Police spell. PIECE OF PAPER Found by opening the drawer in the study. It is read to show the combination for the safe behind the painting in the library. POLICE SPELL Found after the magic glass wand has been waved at the entrance porch of the house. It is cast in the library to reveal the safe. SHINY BRASS KEY Found after the safe in the library has been opened. It is used to unlock the chest in the cellar to receive the Heinz spell. SMALL HAND TORCH Found by opening the cabinet in the kitchen. The battery is inserted into the torch to make the small lit hand torch. SMALL LIT HAND TORCH Made by inserting the small torch battery into the small hand torch. It is used to provide light in the cellar. SMALL TORCH BATTERY Found by opening the cupboard in the lounge. It is inserted into the small hand torch to make the small lit hand torch. TRUSTY GARDEN SPADE Found in the garden shed. It is used to dig at the end of the garden. =============================================================================== 4.
