Clark), E (back to Jakes Avenue), N, N, N, N (employment exchange), JOIN QUEUE (which one?), 3 (you give the letter to Mr. Clark and he gives you an introduction for a job at the ball bearing factory), S, S (the cafe should be open), W (into the cafe where a waitress asks if you would like to order), ORDER FOOD (she brings you a plate of egg and chips with a roll on the side), EAT FOOD (all that's left is some crumbs), GET CRUMBS, E (as you leave the waitress asks about the bill but you're too quick... you are by the railway station), N, WAIT (until the opportunity shop is open), W (you are told that they have nothing for the likes of you so you leave), N (note seeing as you didn't pay the bill, don't re-enter the cafe). N, E, E, WAIT 10 (until a placard advertising Labyrinth appears indicating the cinema is open), SE (into the cinema where your ticket is collected... it's dark but your eyes adjust), EXAMINE SEAT (down the side of it you find a comb), READ SIGN, NW, W, W (outside employment exchange where a hippy should be loitering nearby), EXAMINE HIPPY (he looks familiar), SPEAK HIPPY (it's your friend Bill and he slips you a bottle of whisky - don't drink it unless you want a premature end to the game), S, S, E, U (dingy room), COMB HAIR (by looking in the mirror... you no longer have the mohawk and will now be admitted to the opportunity shop), DROP COMB, D, W, W, (into opportunity shop), EXAMINE CLOTHES (daggy), GET OVERALLS, E, WEAR OVERALLS, N, N, W (into the ball bearing factory), GIVE INTRODUCTION (to the factory manager who offers you a day's work cleaning the factory and tells you to return first thing in the morning). E, S, S, S, E (into the park where a band should now be playing in the bandstand), EXAMINE BAND, LISTEN BAND (as you listen you notice a large woman standing nearby who winks at you), EXAMINE WOMAN, WINK WOMAN (she tells you to meet her at the hotel on Main Street - "Tell the manager Room 28," she says), W, N, E, U (dingy room), GET NEWSPAPER, D, W, S, E (back to park - it is now necessary to kill some time so), N (pond), EXAMINE POND (water lilies grow in abundance here), EXAMINE LILIES (see a frog sitting on a lily pad), EXAMINE FROG, KISS FROG (no way), S (back to park), WAIT 10 (five times), WAIT (until night falls... a derelict will be trying to sleep on the park bench), EXAMINE DERELICT (shabbily dressed and looks cold), SPEAK DERELICT (it's cold tonight), GIVE NEWSPAPER (to the derelict who gives you a ticket to the disco), W, N, E, U (dingy room), REMOVE OVERALLS, DROP OVERALLS, REMOVE CLOTHES, DROP CLOTHES, GO BED, SLEEP (until morning). SECOND DAY GET UP (go straight to the factory as soon as you are dressed), GET UNDERWEAR, WEAR UNDERWEAR, GET CLOTHES, WEAR CLOTHES, GET OVERALLS, WEAR OVERALLS, D, W, N, N, (you should hear the sound of machinery indicating the factory is open), W (into the factory where you arrive in good time for your day's work and at the end receive your pay packet), EXAMINE PAY ($65 - it is now evening and the disco will be open, so), S, S, E, U (dingy room), REMOVE OVERALLS, DROP OVERALLS, GET TICKET (disco), D, W (you see people entering the disco), SE (into disco - must not be wearing overalls), DANCE (you pick up a piece of paper), EXAMINE PAPER (it's a bus pass), NW, E, U (dingy room), WAIT 10 (four times or until it's dark), REMOVE CLOTHES, DROP CLOTHES, GO BED, SLEEP (until morning). THIRD DAY GET UP, GET UNDERWEAR, WEAR UNDERWEAR, GET CLOTHES, WEAR CLOTHES, GET PASS (bus), GET PEPPER (pot), GET CRUMBS, GET PAY (packet), D, W, N, N, E, E (bus stop), WAIT 10 (3 times), WAIT (until a bus arrives), BOARD BUS (you get on), WAIT (you ring the bell to stop the bus and find yourself on Main Street), E, WAIT (until shop opens), E (into shop), BUY SUIT (using your pay packet... it is put in a plastic bag), DROP PAY (empty pay packet), W, N (you try to enter Green's Consulting Rooms but are told they can't help the likes of you), W (Main Street where the bus stop is), WAIT (for the late morning bus - note it must be this one), BOARD BUS (you notice a large lady carrying a paper bag), EXAMINE BAG, SPEAK LADY (she turns out to be one of your many relatives and she gives you a tie), WAIT (the bus stops and you alight). S (pond), WAIT (until you see the ducks swimming up and down), EXAMINE DUCKS, FEED DUCKS (as you feed them you notice a small disc near the edge of the pond), N, WAIT (until the roller-skating rink is open), SW (you insert the disc in the turnstile and enter the roller-skating rink), SKATE, S (into video parlour), PLAY POKER (machine - some thugs are watching you), EXAMINE THUGS (they look menacing and if you don't do something quick you will be mugged), THROW PEPPER (into their eyes - that's the last you'll see of them), EXAMINE POKER (machine), EXAMINE VIDEO (game), PLAY VIDEO (as you play it you notice and ID which had slipped down the back of the machine), EXAMINE ID (it belongs to James Smith), N, NE. S, S, E (tennis courts where several people are playing tennis but these aren't the ones you want), WAIT 10 (5 times), WAIT (until evening and people are playing tennis under lights), SPEAK PEOPLE (you recognise one of your many relatives who offers you a character reference), W, W, N, E, U (dingy room), WAIT 10 (four times until it is dark), REMOVE CLOTHES, DROP CLOTHES, GO BED, SLEEP (until morning). FOURTH DAY GET UP, GET UNDERWEAR, WEAR UNDERWEAR, GET SUIT (out of the plastic bag), WEAR SUIT, GET TIE, WEAR TIE, GET PEN, GET PASS (bus), GET ID (card), GET REFERENCE (which one?), B, GET WHISKY, D, W, N, N, E, E, WAIT 10 (twice), WAIT (until a bus arrives), BOARD BUS, WAIT (you alight at Main Street), S, E (hotel foyer), U (the manager won't let you and is quite uncooperative), GIVE WHISKY (he asks "Which room number"), 28 (he says "Go on up," so you go up the stairs and enter Suite 28... a large woman is here), SPEAK WOMAN (she agrees to give you a reference), D, W. N (the post office should now be open), N (into post office where you meet Bozo, one of your ex-school friends), SPEAK BOZO (you ask him for help and he says "How?"), SHOW ID (he tells you to meet him outside the roller-skating rink and he'll fix it for you), S, WAIT (for a bus), BOARD BUS, WAIT (you alight and meet Bozo who hands you your fixed ID then leaves), EXAMINE ID (it now has your name on it), WAIT 10, WAIT (for the next bus), BOARD BUS (the early afternoon one), WAIT (you alight to Main Street), E (the door to Green's Consulting Rooms is open), N, EXAMINE RECEPTIONIST, SPEAK RECEPTIONIST ("Who do you wish to see?"), MR. KRING (you are ushered into his office... he gives you an application form to complete while he rings through an appointment for you with Mr. Manning), EXAMINE DESK, FILL FORM (need pen), S, S (back to Misty Lane). W, S, S (office lobby), ENTER LIFT, PUSH BUTTON (which one?), PUSH 13 (the lift starts then stops... you enter Mr. Manning's Office... he says "I've been expecting you, give me your application form"), GIVE FORM ("Now show your ID card"), SHOW ID ("Now show me your reference"), SHOW REFERENCE (which one?), SHOW A ("and another reference"), SHOW B (congratulations you've got the job, now you can go home again).
