THE MYSTERY OF MUNROE MANOR (Softgold)
--------------------------------------

MoMM is one of the early classics of the C64 adventure games. Though the plot
lacks originality, the game is very atmospheric. The downside is a number of
dreadful puzzles due to the fact that so many objects are not mentioned in the
game text. But fear not, help is near!
The trick to the game is to plan what to bring when. This also makes it
necessary to go through the same, large part of the mansion twice. But read on,
and everything will be revealed...

(You begin in the entrance hall) E, READ BOOK (you can’t read the other book for
a while, and it’s not important), 1 (a key falls out), GET KEY, RED, W, S, LOOK
ARMOUR, GET PIKE, N, UNLOCK DOOR (using the red key), DROP KEY, RED, OPEN DOOR,
GO DOOR, OPEN DRAWER (not mentioned), LOOK DRAWER, LOOK DRAWER, GET DIARY, READ
DIARY (it tells you of Lord Munroe’s fate), DROP DIARY, GET ROPE, E, GO STAIRS,
TIE ROPE, RAILING, CLIMB ROPE, GET MATCHES, GET MACE, GET KEY, BRASS, CLIMB
ROPE, N, GO DOOR, UNLOCK DOOR (hehe! This seems to be the puzzle that has left
many people stumped ;-) There are *two* doors, not one!), OPEN DOOR, GO DOOR,
BREAK CASES (using the pike, you produce some timber), DROP PIKE, DROP MATCHES,
GET TIMBER, GET HAMMER, GET LADDER, E, E, GO STAIRS, REPAIR STAIRS (with the
hammer and the timber), GO STAIRS, INSERT MACE, ARMOUR (the armour vanishes,
leaving a large hole), GO HOLE, OPEN COFFIN, LOOK COFFIN (a mummy!), DROP
HAMMER, W, S, UNLOCK WARDROBE (this allows you to leave through here later), N,
UNLOCK DOOR, OPEN DOOR, GO DOOR, LOOK WINDOW (ghosts!), DROP LADDER, CLIMB
LADDER, READ MAPS (how to cross the Nile – probably not important), GET PISTOL,
N, GET LADDER, N, N, GO HOLE (the mummy should have vanished by now – otherwise
walk around for a while), LOOK COFFIN (you find a crevice!), GO CREVICE,
GETANKH, W, W, N, N, S, DROP HAMMER, DROP KEY, BRASS, LOOK TABLE (leave the meat
for later), LOOK TABLE, GET CANDLES, N, GO DOOR, GO DOOR, GET MATCHES, SHIFT
CASES (there’s a hole behind them), GO HOLE

Hidden area:
LOOK SKELETON (it’s lord Munroe!), S, LOOK DOOR, READ INSCRIPTION, TWIST RING
(very illogical – it opens the doors), GO DOORS, LIGHT CANDLE (hope you brought
the matches – otherwise the game is over!), LOOK SARCOPHAGUS (a hint!), INSERT
ANKH, SARCOPHAGUS ( a passage opens), GO PASSAGE, SHOOT SNAKES * 4 (they move
away), E, GO STEPS, N, OPEN WARDROBE (only possible if you unlocked it from the
outside), GO DOOR

Back in the hidden area:
N, N, N, S, GET MEAT, N, GO DOOR, GO DOOR, GO HOLE, DROP PISTOL, GET COIN, S, GO
DOORS, LIGHT CANDLE, DROP MATCHES, GET ANKH, GO PASSAGE, GO ARCH, LOOK WALL
(another ’brilliant’ puzzle – you find a small slot), INSERT COIN, SLOT (the
statue turns and poses no threat to you any longer), E, PUSH SLAB * 4 (you open
the door), GO DOOR

Finale:
E, PUSH ROCK (this stops the mummy from stalking you), W, S, HOLD ANKH (with
this marvellous command you make the ghosts disappear – duh!), S, DROP MEAT (the
dogs leave you alone), DROP LADDER, CLIMB LADDER, GO FOREST (you have escaped!!)

Notes: unless otherwise noted, everything is unlocked with the brass key.
If you take too long after opening the coffin, the mummy will hunt you down and
kill you.
