The Manor on Top of the Hill, by Kalyen Walkthrough by Andrew Schultz This game was made for TALP 21 with an optional tutorial. The tutorial has the player do some stuff so they know what is going on. While there's one path to see everything, another shorter one is available if you know things in advance. In my opinion, the tutorial can be skipped for advanced players as it adds no backstory and makes the player backtrack a bit. But it covers what needs to be covered for new players. And the game helpfully adds tutorial notes elsewhere. WITHOUT TUTORIAL: > GET LIGHTER > N > X DRESSER > GET LAMP > LIGHT LAMP > N > DROP LAMP WITH TUTORIAL (to see all the messages): > GET LIGHTER > I > DROP LIGHTER > N > N > X DRESSER > GET LAMP > N > S > S > GET LIGHTER > N > N > LIGHT LAMP > DROP LAMP > E > X BOOKS > GET SHEET > W > N > E > X BED > GET HAMMER > W The way west is blocked by a door locked from the inside ... foreshadowing a secret-ish passage later. You don't have to make these next three moves, since the game doesn't check if you actually read the burnt paper. You can guess the safe combo right, and the game has no "did you read the clues" flag. > N > X PAPER > S > S > W Now if you know the combo you can enter it, saving moves. But you're cheating yourself of some explanation. > OPEN CUPBOARD > OPEN SAFE > 2584 > GET RED > W > OPEN DOOR > D A slightly tricky guess the verb here. > DESTROY PLANKS > N > READ PAPER (if you took the other paper) > 1 Either way, you see these two partial numbers: ..84 25.. > U > GET KEYS > UNLOCK DOOR > OPEN DOOR > E > E > UNLOCK DOOR > OPEN DOOR > E > X WARDROBE > S > GET BLUE > N > W > W Detour to get the orb from the safe if you didn't sneak ahead before. > S > W > OPEN CUPBOARD > OPEN SAFE > 2584 > GET RED > E > N > N You need to be carrying the music sheet from the library for this to have its intended effect. > PLAY PIANO A new passage! > U > PLACE RED > PLACE BLUE > ENTER PORTAL (note: ENTER sends you to a new room you can go back from. You need ENTER PORTAL.)
