Day Out By Zeno Pillan For web browser Solution by Garry Francis ---------------------------------------- This is a minimal solution to a very ordinary game by a first-time author. There are no choices, but it plays very much like a choice-based game. It doesn't have a clear story or a clear goal. There are no conventional exits (N, S, E, W, U, D) or a conventional map. Objects are not listed clearly. You can't EXAMINE very much. You can't examine or interact with any scenery. The parser is awful. The vast majority of commands are one-word commands. It is full of mazes with one-way exits. The spelling, grammar and capitalisation is atrocious. As an example, the town is called Tortino, Torino, Tourin and Tourtino and maybe one or two others that I didn't note. Nevertheless, despite all its warts, it has a certain appeal. The game starts with you driving a car on a highway. The highway is a maze, but every highway room description is unique, so keep careful notes to work out where you are. All exits from the highway are one-way, but you can leave and rejoin the highway at various points. (This is why you need to keep careful notes, as it is not the least bit logical.) You will also find a town that is set out like a maze and a couple of other maze-like areas. Very early in the game, you are forced to leave the highway to get petrol and buy a snack. There are four snacks - pringles, cheese sandwich, wafer and icecream. Each snack determines what will happen during the rest of the game and you will be presented a partly redacted message at the end. You have to play the game four times to see the complete message, although it is fairly easy to guess after you've played a few scenarios. Once you have decoded the complete message, it will reveal a fifth snack that reveals a fifth scenario. The solution gives all five scenarios for each of the five snacks. Each scenario opens new areas on the map. In the wafer scenario, by a process of trial and error, you will find that you need to buy: - at least a complete look (but it's not clear what that means) - at least one between dresses and shirts - more than three items - less than eight items - accessories (the only accessories are bags) - avoid bottomwear (I have no idea what this means) - buy at least one between suits and knitwear - buy bags or sportswear, not both (as bags are necessary, this effectively means that you can't buy sportswear) Putting it all together, a valid combination is dresses, underwear, knitwear and bags. There may be other valid combinations. Some optional (but significant) commands are shown in parentheses. These can be omitted once you know what to do. [1. Pringles scenario] (I) (you are carrying your notebook and a map) AHEAD RIGHT FILL (your car's tank is full) ENTER (you enter the store without needing to exit your car) PAY (you pay for the fuel) BUY (which snack do you want to buy?)
