Atzeco Adventure (Italian) By Roberto B For VZ200/300 Solution by Garry Francis ---------------------------------------- The original listing of this game is impossible to enter and play without making modifications. The remarks at the beginning of the listing tell you to omit all spaces around keywords to reduce the lines to a maximum of 64 characters. After you've done this, a few lines still exceed 64 characters, so you need to split them over two lines or modify the code. There is no word-wrapping. If you add spaces to prevent the words splitting at the end of a line, then the lines become too long again, so you need to split these over two lines. Even after making these changes, there are still other bugs and issues that make the game unwinnable. In the original version of the game, your inventory is limited to one item. An Aztec warrior appears at random on a regular basis. You can't leave the room once the warrior appears and he kills you after a few moves. You need the sword to kill him, so you need to keep this with you at all times. This means you can't carry any other items. If you drop the sword to get another item, you'll be sure to meet the warrior and get killed within a few moves. To make matters worse, there are a number of situations where you use an object and it disappears or it disappears from your inventory (such as when you leave prison), but the number of carried items is not decremented, so you can no longer carry anything at all! In the bug-fixed version of the game, the inventory count issues have been fixed and the Aztec warrior only appears once, so you can drop the sword after he's been killed without fear of him returning. The inventory limit is left at one item. If you want to increase this, change MX=1 to (say) MX=2 in line 125. There are three mazes, so you might want to increase the inventory limit (at least temporarily) to allow you to map the mazes. The bug-fixed version also corrects a lot of spelling errors in the Aztec names. This is a minimal solution to the bug-fixed version of the game. Your objective is to find Montezuma's room. There is no score, but when you get killed or reach the end, it tells you the proportion of the game completed. This is a measure of the rooms visited. If you want to get a 100% score, you will have to visit every room, including all the mazes. You start to get hungry after 45 moves. If you don't eat something after a further 9 moves, you die. There are a few situations where you will get escorted to prison. On the surface, it looks like there is no escape, but if you DIG through the stone and answer YES to the follow-up question, water floods the cell and washes you out, but you lose your belongings (if any). Don't panic, they are nearby. Some knowledge of Aztec history and culture will prove useful. See the notes after the solution if this not your strong point. Some optional (but significant) commands are shown in parentheses. These can be omitted once you know what to do. (At the beginning, note the word that says 'DEL CHE') E S (word says 'PAROLA') S PRENDI SPADA (you can now face the Aztec warrior) N O (word says 'CREA', an Aztec warrior blocks the way) UCCIDI GUERRIERO (with sword, some people carry the body away, you hear a noise) (G) (it was some cocoa beans, cocoa beans are the currency of this culture) POSA SPADA PRENDI CACAO S (word says 'LA E' IL') (S) (word says 'NOME DIO') (S) (word says 'APRE CHE') (N) (E) (N) (sorcerer asks for name of emperor, who was emperor in 1520?)
