The Dungeons Solution by Alex Dijkstra for the c64 The objects and monsters are randomly placed at the beginning of each game therefore it is not possible to write a walkthrough, but with below hints you should be able to finish the game. *** Finishing the game *** You start in room 1 and have to make it to room 99 (see my map on CASA). Before you go there you have to locate the location with the magic casket. When you open the casket you retrieve a key. This key can be used to open the door in room 99 (Look, Open Door while holding the key). You must have a total of at least 1000 points (combining gold coins and experience points). You can see your score if you give the command I (inventory). Move North (east and west are pits) and you've solved the game. *** Beginning the game *** Choosing your character: At the beginning of the game your abilities are presented. They each have a random value between 4 and 20. -Strength and Dexterity. If these are high your weapon (attack force) becomes higher. -Wisdom and intellect. If these are high the chance of a spell succeeding is bigger. -Constitution. If this is high the chance of being hit by a monster during an attack is lower. If you don't like your scores you can restart the game. After that you have to choose between Fighter or Magician. A magician can't use armour and a fighter can't use spells. *** Shop *** After choosing your character you enter a shop where you can buy some items. You can return to this shop by moving west from the entrance. *** Objects *** You can carry 3 objects. Spells -Healing spell. Only for magicians. You can recover a random amount of up to 3 hitpoints. -Protect spell. Only for magicians. You are protected for 12 turns from attacks. Food You need these to prevent starvation. At the start you have 80 stamina points. You have to eat something before they drop to zero. Eating food adds 50 point to your stamina. -Iron rations. -Sandwich pack. Armor (only for fighter): -Shield -Suit of armour The suit of armour is the best. If you have the suit of armour you won't need the shield. Weapons: -Sword -Macic Sword -Flaming Sword The Flaming Sword is the best, the sword the least strongest weapon. Scrolls: If you read scrolls you can use their spell. This can also be done by a fighter. -Flying scroll You can fly one time to another random location. -Strength scroll Read it to get some strength. -Cursed scroll. Leave them. If you take them you become cursed and die. Bags of gold: Collect as many as you can to reach the 1000 points you need. Each bag contains a random amount between 20 and 120 coins. Potions: The effect of drinking a potion is random. You have 7 options: 1 or 2 your hitpoints increase with a random amount (0-3) 3 you become protected during 12 turns 4 You become quicker for a short while during a fight increasing your chance of a succesful attack. 6 You will lose a random amount of hitpoints (0-2) 7 You die As the effect of a potion is random. Save before drinking one. Other: -Magic casket. You have to locate the casket because it contains the key to open the exit of the dungeons. -Silver mirror. If you Look while there is a mirror you get scared and you lose a random amount of money. Useless items: -Flask of wine -Lantern -Garlic clove -Knife -Carrying bag *** Commands *** Commands are entered by entering the first letter: S say spell (Health, Protection) R read Scroll (Flying, Strength) M move (N,S,E,W) O open (Casket, Door) T or G take object C cut noose (you need a weapon) A attack monster F fly after reading a flying scroll. You will fly to a random location between number 9 and 79. I inventory H help. Gives you some of the commands D drop an item L look (only in room 81 and 99) P drink potion Q quit game or save data X show exits E eat B back to next command *** Fighting *** Monsters: Hitpoints Experience points: Huge spider 3 10 Giant centipede 2 20 Shrieker 3 30 Purple worm 6 40 Troglodyte 11 50 Red dragon 9 60 Minotour 10 70 Some monsters are placed at the beginning of the game. In room 4 and higher each turn there is a 1/9 chance of encountering a random monster (spider, centipede, worm or shrieker). -If you are attacked and have protection you won't be hurt, also wearing armour gives a bigger chance of a failing attack. -The worm and troglodyte have a random chance of emitting poison vapour. -During a fight you may run. If you choose to do this you will run to a room with a number which is one number lower (e.g. from 6 to 5 or from 47 to 46). Attacking The chance of a succesful attack is higher if you have a better weapon or if you have used a potion which made you quicker. *** Dying *** You can die in the following ways: -Having a noose around your neck for more than 3 turns. -Taking a cursed scroll. You become cursed. -Drinking a potion (see above). -If your hitpoints get lower than 1. -If you fall into a pit (room 99). -Starvation. Each time you eat you get an extra 50 points. *** Noose *** -The noose is randomly placed in room 40-49. -If you become trapped in a noose you have three turns to Cut yourself loose with a weapon. After three turns you suffocate. *** Secret door *** -In room 81 use Look to discover a hidden exit South (the way you came else you can't leave this room). *** Map ** Note six rooms on the map are not connected to the rest of the map. You can only reach them by running from a fight in a room one number higher: -Run from a fight in room 93 to reach room 92. -Run from a fight in room 91 to reach room 90. -Run from a fight in room 86 to return to room 85. *** Cheating *** Due to the random elements it is rather hard to solve this game alive. Especially because it is difficult to regain lost hitpoints. -In CCS64 type alt+m, type M0328 followed by enter, change the first value to ED followed by enter. Type esc to return to the game. You can now stop the game by pressing esc and list it. -List 10 and change it to: 10 POKE 808,237:GOSUB1000:GOSUB100 The following lines may be interested to change if you want to cheat: 22 REM You will not die from starvation. No need to eat any longer. 500 GOTO 100 You won't be attacked by the monsters 553 REM Monsters die instantly when you attack them. Less interesting: 22 REM No suffocation when trapped by the noose. 72 REM No random monsters, but it takes longer to reach the 1000 points. 74 REM When protected it stays. 76 REM You haste won't wear off. 503 REM No poison vapour from the worm or troglodyte
