The Young'ns By Andrew Flexman Published by Flexisoft For Sega SC-3000 Solution by Garry Francis ---------------------------------------- This is a minimal solution to a really harsh game. There are several ways to die, several ways to get into an unwinnable situation and a huge number of guess-the-verb scenarios. When entering commands, you must enter them exactly as shown. In particular, EXAM must be entered that way. If you type EXAMINE, it won't work. The game compares your whole command to a string. It does not parse it, or identify individual verbs and nouns. You cannot use leading or trailing spaces or multiple spaces between words. There are virtually no synonyms and no abbreviations. You cannot drop anything. There is no save game feature, so I'd suggest playing it on an emulator that allows you to save the state. Apart from all those gripes, the bugs and the spelling errors, it's actually not a bad game. GO BUNK EXAM BUNK (you find a space suit) GET SUIT WEAR SUIT (you can now leave your cabin) GET UP E N (E) (READ NOTE) (it tells you what to do, note that red is your unlucky colour) (W) W EXAM BENCH (you find some lentils) GET LENTILS (you'll need these to cook tea) E N W BREAK DOOR (glass appears) GET GLASS E N GO TRAPDOOR (don't examine the broken wires!) E GET CUTTERS CUT GLASS (something happened) (I) (you now have prisoms [sic]) GET TAPE GET CROWBAR W TAPE WIRES (something happened, but you don't know what) W EXAM CONTAINER (you find wood and rope) GET WOOD GET ROPE E GO TRAPDOOR S S S E GET MIRROR (with crowbar) W S (don't examine laser or go any further south unless holding the mirror) W GET TORCH (don't turn it on until you need it, as it has a limited life) E HOLD MIRROR S (mirror reflects laser, don't press red button in control room!) EXAM PANEL (you find a lever) INSERT PRISOMS (in sockets) PULL LEVER (if you've taped wires & inserted prisoms, you land on Earth) N E OPEN AIRLOCK (open airlock appears) GO AIRLOCK (you drop everything you don't need and ship takes off) N GO ROAD E (Vivian asks if you want a ride on his bike) SAY YES (Vivian drops you off in town) E GO COUNTER OPEN DOOR (yeah, yeah, I know it's locked, but who am I to argue?) GO DOOR GET MONEY (leave money lying around in a vault & you deserve to get it stolen) W W W W GO COUNTER BUY RECORD (with stolen money) (I) (you acquired *Cliff Richard record*) E E N W EXAM BAR (you find *bottle of vodca* [sic]) GET BOTTLE GO STAIRS GO DOOR (someone locks door behind you, but it still says 'open door') EXAM WARDROBE (you find a cowboy suit) GET SUIT EXAM SUIT (nothing appears to happen) (I) (you actually acquired a pistol) MAKE LADDER (from wood and rope) (I) (you acquired a rope ladder) THROW LADDER (becomes ladder hanging out the window) CLIMB LADDER N (it's too dark to see, don't go north without lighting the torch) LIGHT TORCH (ah, that's better) N (no room description here) N (don't examine rich man) SHOOT MAN (with pistol, becomes dead man) EXAM MAN (you find *money*) GET MONEY N W GO DOOR (Rik, Vivian & Mike take their presents and tell you to cook tea) COOK TEA (with lentils) ***THE END***
