Matilda's Dilemma By Bob Viering Published by Buffalochip Software For Bunyon interpeter or TI-99/4A with Scott Adams' Adventure cartridge Solution by Garry Francis ---------------------------------------- This is a minimal solution to a very hard game. If you're not following this solution, you'll need to get killed many times to work out what to do to avoid getting killed the next time around. There are many guess-the-verb, guess-the-noun and even guess-the-pronoun situatons. There are also many one-way exits and sudden-death scenarios. Once you know where these are, save the game beforehand in case you need to come back and try again. Optional (but significant) commands are shown in brackets. You can omit these once you know what to do. You'll also need to LOOK at things not in the solution, but I've included the most significant things. Your inventory is limited to 6 items and some items have to be kept with you until quite late in the game, so inventory management is crucial. Most importantly, who is Matilda and what is her dilemma? GET PIGEON GET BADGE (LOOK BADGE) (you're James Bondo) N (GO ENTRY) (guard won't let you in) SHOW BADGE DROP BADGE GO ENTRY (Miss Pennymoney says boss left something for you in his office) E GET ENVELOPE LOOK ENVELOPE (you find gun, pen, cigarette case and letter) DROP ENVELOPE (GET LETTER) (READ LETTER) (meet contact at Black Cat Nightclub, then find boss' daughter) (DROP LETTER) GET GUN GET PEN (LOOK PEN) (it has a button, save game before you press it to see what it does) GET CASE W CALL CAB (on Miss Pennymoney's phone) W S GO CAB GO NIGHTCLUB GO NIGHTCLUB (second time to get out of cab) GO BAR ORDER MARTINI (James Bondo's drink of choice) SHAKEN (martini and napkin appear) (GET NAPKIN) (READ NAPKIN) (reading between the gaps, she's in a warehouse in Australia) (DROP NAPKIN) GO TABLE GO BOOTH LOOK PHONE (you find some matches) GET MATCHES E GO BAR TALK LADY (she asks if you'd like to join her) FOLLOW LADY (you end up at her apartment) OFFER CIGARETTE (she passes out, you can now get into her bedroom) DROP CASE GO BEDROOM LOOK DRESSER (you find a mirror) MOVE MIRROR (you find a disk) GET DISK (LOOK DISK) (it's made of plastic, what could it be?) LOOK BED (you find a phone) CALL CAB S W GO CAB GO AIRPORT GO AIRPORT (second time to get out of cab) W S LOOK MAN (you find a suitcase) GET SUITCASE PUT GUN IN SUITCASE (you can now get through the metal detector) N BUY TICKET (where to?) FOR NAME (his name's Wild Bill Kodi) FLICK RED (he's ejected, bye-bye Mr Kodi) E E E (you're at 3rd Street, where the stewardess lives) N GO YARD (GO PORCH) (dog won't let you) THROW DISK (dog chases it, it was a Frisbee) GO PORCH RING BELL (stewardess says let's go, she's starving) GET STEWARDESS (can't leave her behind or you'd be having a date by yourself) GO YARD GO CAR S W W N GO RESTAURANT (good evening Mr Kodi, dinner for two?) ORDER DINNER (no staff or menu, yet dinner's served & check [or cheque] arrives) DROP STEWARDESS (always dump your girlfriend to free up your inventory) GET CHECK (fortune cookie arrives) PAY CHECK (it disappears) GET COOKIE READ FORTUNE (when in Australia, do as the kangaroos do, jump in front of cars?) GET GIRL E E E GO WINDOW JUMP DOWN (we're getting our money's worth out of that fortune cookie) W GO CAR FLICK YELLOW (woohoo, a flying car, now which direction to home?) DROP PIGEON (it flies away, useless bird) FOLLOW PIGEON (we're back home, must have been a homing pigeon) N GET BADGE (you know the drill) SHOW BADGE GO ENTRY E (job well done and your reward is another mission at 8 sharp tomorrow, sheesh) ***THE END*** And you still don't know who Matilda is or what her dilemma was. Perhaps it's a reference to Walzing Matilda (Australia's national song) and her dilemma is that she doesn't know how to spell correctly when a game is set in Great Britain and Australia, where they use proper English, rather than American.
