Peneless Ivysoft Spectrum 128 HINTS (not necessarily in order): This is one very complicated game which took time and three people to solve. Verbs are standard but some puzzles defy logic. At least two versions of this game are available. One has fewer corrupt screens than the other, but they do not seem to affect the outcome of the game. Make sure you are playing with an emulator that allows for easy CAPS. This walkthrough does not "explore" the countryside for maximum points, and usually provides the most direct way of getting from one place to another; hence you do not get the maximum score. The parser sometimes needs more than two words. If your command does not work, try it again with "TO <person/thing>" added. Quotation marks are not needed. What do you do with a conch? BLOW SHELL when it is needed. There are two ways to get on the eagle –give him the rodent, and blow shell (you may need to do this several times). Don't use the rodent while you have the shell or you will lose it - and there goes a means of escape from the village. When you die underwater, consider what you need to do under such circumstances, i. e. HOLD BREATH. You will breathe again automatically after a few moves. There appear to be/find two unnecessary objects – the bench and the necklace (though maybe we have not just found a use for them). This game awards you points for the number of locations you visit, not for objects you pick up or use. So sometimes you may not get a 100% score. The more you explore the higher your score. You need several objects to fix the boat – a cloth (for a sail), a rope, hammer, nails, and planks. But you will need two of those objects for another use, so do not be too quick to make the boat serviceable. You need something to help you cross the chasm at the beginning. But be quick when you're on the other side. Make sure you enter an adjective when you have more than one similar object (e.g. key). How would you cross dangerous gravel? CRAWL in a particular direction. You can feed some animals but not others. While the contents of the jug can put someone (other than you) to sleep, this is not strictly needed to finish the game; a least it makes use of the liquid in a "satisfying" kind of way. Several objects have more than one use: small key, rope, hammer, rodent, bottle, axe, ladder. Make sure you use them in the correct location first. Lilies will help you navigate the swamp. While you can break the door to the troll's room by eating the mushroom, don't do that. Save that part until later when you have a tool. There are several locations where you need to wait until it is dark – the vampire bat cave, the shimmering room, at the boar. You will need to visit past the desert more than once, and escape also. Means of satisfying your thirst may be needed. Also explore fully first, as there are exits which are not obvious. When you cross the weak rope bridge, you can only carry one heavy object at a time or a few light ones. Try HELP at various locations. Sometimes it provides actual help. Torches have a limited life span. Don't worry too much – light will be made available when needed. What will explode a crack so you can get what is there? You need to capitalize the entire word to say when you are on the pillar, and also to capitalize Penelope to free her. You find the word in the room that is shimmering with light, but not when it's brightly lit.
